Anyone have comments on LUX 5.0 vs Mtec V2 for the pre-LCI E90s?
Is the difference worth the $50?

Just pulled the trigger on Lux H8 for my E92. I'll post pix. This thread has been a tremendous help.

So, I got my Lux H8 today. I ordered them from NAM on Monday, and got them here on Wednesday. As many already said, they are bright! The inner ring is brighter than the outer ring just like the stock setup, but each rings light up very evenly. Installation took about 30 minutes total because it took me FOREVER to line the tabs blindly behind the housing. It isn't difficult at all, but it is really tight in there. Be patient, and try not to snap anything in there. Overall, I'm very happy with them. I haven't had a chance to see them in daylight, but I think they look sick at night.

Here's some comparison with stock. I'll try to snap a few during the day tomorrow.

Driver side: Lux H8
Passenger Side: Stock H8

Thanks for the pics Rummy. I was thinking about going with those as well and I am still leaning to that brand.

For folks posting pictures, they're definitely appreciated. However, the night pics as necessary as some of the other times. If you really want to help those that are interested in changing out their AE's, post daytime shots, and I don't mean overcast, in shadows shots. Shots where the sun is overhead, and where it's in front of the car, are the most ideal. That gives the most accurate depiction of what to expect from the AEs, and realistically, the worst scenario. Other pictures are obviously welcome, but these types of shots are extremely helpful.

I've had Weisslicht and AiB in my car. To me, AiB's color best matches the OEM 4200K HID headlights. They probably tie LUX H8 in intensity but do NOT match the color/brightness of the LCI 2011 E92 headlamps.

I prefer the design and color of Weisslicht. Its intensity is slightly reduced compared to AiB and LUX, but the color is a more bluish/purple-white light, something more equivalent to 6000K.

There are several distinct advantages to the Weisslicht H8 fixture:

-The ballasts, or LED driver packs are encased in aluminum and are not required to be mounted outside of the headlamp housing. They also use very secure connections.

-The LEDs are mounted on spring-loaded "arms" that expand into the housing, directing the LEDs into the light pipe areas. This is the most effective placement of the LEDs and doesn't result in light "bleeding" into the cornering lamp fixture. HID-based AE kits are horrid for this-- it looks as if you have the headlights on because so much extra light is projected forward through the cornering lamp.

-No external heatsinks required. The installation is pretty straightforward.

-Price. The Weisslicht H8 kit is reasonably-priced compared to their competitors.

I'm now considering putting my AiB up for sale and going back to Weisslicht. I'm not so happy with the electronics, specifically the design of the connectors. It has resulted in one fried ballast already.

Got home too late today, but I snapped a few before the sun went down. Hopefully this will give you *some* idea. I'll take some under the sun if weather permits.

Really appreciate your feedback of your experience as I'm currently on the market for new AE solution and been contemplating between LUX H8 & Weisslicht. I've had RD AE's for the past 1+ years. I the color hue of RD AE's and clean install (i.e nothing needs to be outside of headlight housing), but you can barely if at all see them on the bright day + the reliability/longevity from my experience hasn't been the greatest...

I understand Weisslicht is about to release their new generation of AE's does any one know what if any improvements they've done over current version ?

I also thought Weisslicht is working on a new version of their H8 AE but I recently PM'd Cal@Jlevi SW and got this response:

At this point, I don't think an updated V2 of the WL product will be released in the near future, we may be looking into an HID option instead.
They are working on a P24W PnP LED product for E92/E93s in place of the amber halogen bulb in the corners (turn signal), but I was looking forward to an update to their LED AE kit.

This is the responce I've got from RedlineMotorworks last week about Weisslicht V2 but no details on what are the improvements:

After waiting to hear back, I have finally learned that the V2s are supposed to be arriving any day now.

I just replaced my Weisslicht H8 units with EaS AiB. For those interested, I've noted a few differences:

I think the AiB offers slightly higher (brighter) output. It employs a different method of illumination in the H8 fixture, similar to that of LUX, but with one high-power LED per side instead of two in each fixture. The aluminum units are machined to reflect light into each light pipe with a large heatsink on the back to cool the LED.

The AiB is definitely more "pure" white in color, very similar to OEM HID (4300K) color. The Weisslicht units have a hint of blue/purple but look really good.

The Weisslicht units were a bit of a challenge to install, requiring two hands with one to hold the "pincher tool" in place to keep it from spreading as the fixture enters the housing. They turn into place and you can see exactly how each LED aligns with the light pipe. They're very easy to remove. You can tuck the driver pack/ballast into the headlamp cavity to keep it all hidden and water-tight.

The AiB units require very grippy fingers with the help of pliers to turn and "lock" into place. I had to turn the driver's side extra tight to make sure the LED channels aligned with the light pipes. The passenger side doesn't seem to align with the light pipes so easily and is still off by a hair. The driver packs/ballasts are recommended to remain outside of the light fixture by tucking the wires through the lid of the housing. I'm not sure if this is for liability or longevity as the headlamp housings can trap heat.

I'm not sure I would do the upgrade again--I was mostly happy with the Weisslicht LED solution but desired something with brighter output for the daytime. I should be able to better evaluate that tomorrow. I have heard that an updated Weisslicht H8 solution is in the works but I don't have any details on it.
Since you've tested the Weisslicht AE's and the AiB's. which would you say has a nicer overall output both during the day and night?

At night- Weisslicht. The light output is precise but with a slightly purplish tinge. It matches the color of the door handle LEDs but slightly contrasts with the headlights. Unfortunately, it can get washed out in direct daylight. I still notice they're on if I look at the car's reflection in a window, but they're not as bright as I'd like.

At day- AiB. I believe the LEDs are just a bit more powerful but the color just about perfectly matches the 4200K output from the OEM HIDs.

Once my replacement ballasts arrive, I think I'm going to take one of the AiBs out and put in a Weisslicht unit, then take pictures for a direct comparison of both units in the same car.

Got some 2500K Yellow Angel Eye Bulbs... Just for change of pace, these look really good coming down the road, all my friends agree.

Also pictured are some 4500K (i think) Canbus HID Fogs, really match the OEM HID very well.

Couldnt get my camera to focus but it looks like the bat mobile i swear.

Got the Angel Eyes and Fogs from www.highperformancebulbs.com (cheapest price on canbus HID Fogs), the guy hasnt updated his site so just email him. Cool guy. I think they were about $100.

Bought a 2nd set of fogs if anyone is interested you can PM me.
