Moving to Scripps Ranch, San Diego

Hi folks, we are moving to Scripps Ranch in San Diego. Can someone recommend a BMW dealer for my E-90 and E-39 vehicles. Thanks.

Whats up man, Scripps Ranch here too!

I either use BMW of San Diego, or Cunningham. BMW of San Diego is slow to get you in, much easier at Cunningham. Ive had more success at pesky problems with BMW of SD.

I would not go to BMW of SD. Took me 3 weeks to get a service appointment once. I recommend Harloff BMW in Encintas. Ask the for the service advisor Brian. He's cool and got a modded E39.

I agree, they take for ever to get you in and thats why I use Cunningham for routine stuff. Encinitas is WAY too far away for me from both home and work.

BMW of SD seems to do better with the tricky problems though.

I take my car to Shane Nguyen. Ask around. He is one of the best techs in San Diego. Does all of the modified BMWs. He is now on his own.

Unfortunately Harloff BMW is no longer. They sold out to Auto Nation and it's now known as Encinitas BMW. Most of the same staff is still their, but not all. My service advisor, Paul, was unfortunately one of the ones layed off. So while I used to always recommend Harloff, I'm now going to take a step back and see what this new ownership is going to be like.

Took my E46 there after the change in management. Other than a little slow in getting my car turned around for some CV boot replacement, did a good job. Like said earlier the SA Brian seems pretty cool. I have a headlight that is starting to die again, and i have angle eyes and a body color matched liners. I asked him what to do, and to my surprise he didn't say void warranty. He just told me to take out my stuff, they'd take out the liner out of the new light, swap lights, and then I could put my stuff in the new light and the would put the new liner in the dead light. Then he told me that he had a modded E39. He seems cool enough to me.

Steve Pellitier is a great guy at BMW of SD, but as an organization both in sales and in service they have gone down a great deal since being bought out. I bought my first 3 BMWs from them, but this one I bought from Cunningham.

Funny that you say that. Harloff was in fact bought out by Auto Nation and I am not sure I would go there. I have not had very good interaction with them. I bought my first car from Cunningham and it was a good experience. I always had a good experience over there, but there has been changes there to. Being in east county does make it a little inconvenient. One thing I can say is that BMW of SD has made leaps and bounds from what it was 6 years ago. At this time I only recommending SD BMW to my friends and clients unless I have a bad experience and I will certainly post here.

I'm sure you've googled it by now.

I went to Brecht for my sunroof noises. The one that sounded like a bad seal got me nothing, I still need to t-shoot it myself, and the guy who was my SA - never made eye contact, very standoffish to me, said sir a lot but sounded very sarcastic about it - I found out later was SA of the year in 07.

So I'm taking this to Encinitas and Brian, it looks like.

I would rather light my car on fire, drive it off a cliff than take it to Cunningham. I have had bad experiences with them on a previous car. I like Brecht . It's probably the closest to Scripps Ranch. That and SD Bmw

In the end, I think dealerships are like the install shops at Best Buy and Circuit City.

You might find someone by chance that does good work. There are a few.

But the system in place does not incentivize good work, it incentivizes sloppy, fast work - and if you get good work, it's in spite of the system, not because of the system.

So the work product is tied to the person, not the system - or in this case, the sign over the service drive.

You are 100% right. That being said, some dealerships don't deserve to carry the BMW line . The service and ATTITUDE of the writers is despicable. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor instead of helping you.

Brecht BMW's got a new service center that's pretty impressive...I live in Sabre Springs (right next to Scripps) and drive it to Escondido for service. Awesome people...
