Corona light out (please help)
I am not sure if anyone else came across this issue. The car is a LCI with the adaptive xenon lights. The left corner corona light is out (the one around the xenon bulb) but the smaller one next to it works fine so it is not the bulb (its one bulb for both corona lights). Anyone have an idea as what may cause this issue?

I'm no expert but I think the light is passed from the bulb to the coronas via a solid plastic tube that becomes the coronas, essentially the light illuminates this plastic. If that is indeed how it works you could have...
A. a broken ring B. the light bulb is not properly contacting the coronas C. Something is between the bulb and the corona. Anyone have more info?

Yeah, there's a square mirror which reflects light from the H8 to the tubes that go to the outer ring. It's just inside the AE H8 shroud.
In your case, that mirror likely snapped out of its mounting bracket and no longer does its job. Installing it back is nearly impossible (I spent a few hours with the headlight off the car). Remove the headlight and try to spot what I've described by looking through the hole left by removing the H8. Best bet is to monitor eBay for a replacement light (for cheap - $150-200), and throw yours up there when you get the replacement on and confirmed working. |

I am just out of warranty and the CPO won't cover it. I hit some debris prior to this happening so this maybe a result of it. It can't be the light bulb because the one next to it works but the car throws the error "light" code so it should be something with the connection. If the mirror part is broken it wouldn't throw a code, correct?

Yeah, more than likely the bulb is not seated properly in the housing. Open it up and check, you'll have to push and turn for it to sit and lock in the housing.

I did. I changed the bulb and I twisted it. I am pretty sure it is sitting in correctly. I initially thought that the part of the ring tube was damage but since it is throwing an error code, it has to be something electrical.

I was advised by the dealer that CPO does not cover lights/bulbs. The car is just two months out of warrant (it had both CPO and new car warranty). At first I thought it was the bulb so I checked with the other side for comparison. There is only one H8 bulb for both coronas. Basically when I took out the bulb both coronas did not work. The strange thing is that the bulb works but one of the coronas does not. I figured that something inside the corona ring tube was broken and no longer reflects the light from the bulb but if that was the case why do I still get the error code. I changed the bulb and this I still have one corona out and the error code.

No, but I am assuming dealer will charge around $100 just to check the code. I am not sure if it is worth it. I checked all the other lights and everything seems to be working fine. The code comes on as soon as I start the car, unlike when my LED turn signal was out. The code did not come on until I used the signal.

You're in the states right? I remember reading online places like AutoZone or PepBoys (God forbid you have to take it there) will do a free read on codes? Or it could be a good excuse to spend $60-100 on your own code reader. It's a beautiful thing to have lol

I do have access to an OBDII scanner but I don't think it will read light bulb codes.

If it is the mirror that popped out then i know it is possible to fix, but its Really hard. Thes only about a 1 inch gap to get into the area and the clips that hold the mirror in place are very hard to work with.
You could always try to open the headlight but if you can get a used from for under $200 then that would be easier and probably safer. If you buy one make sure there is a return policy because i've seen them come loose in shipping as well.
