Just read this thread and it got me thinking about my set up. Chose not to go with dedicated winters (yet). Took off my runflat RE050A UHPs for Mich Pilot Sport All Seasons (non run flat) and car has been in service for 5 days. So.... took it for a spin in our Chicago burbs here. Impressed how well the XI handles with the all seasons. Got scared I'd be in line getting LM25 or WS60's tomorrow. This storm is all bark and no bite. Hope much of it gets rained over and melts.
Anyway.... Always great info on this board. I really think the dedicated snows are MUST have for rear drive, as my 535i loaner I had for past 5 days was terrible when we got black ice and the start of this storm today. Didn't want to drive it. Too spoiled in AWD. Cheers. |

I've been following this argument on the general board over the past two days.
My two cents: For the most part you should be fine with the XI and AS. Of course you'd be better with the winters and XI. Where the XI won't help is when it gets really cold and those AS freeze up. Having the XI will only mean that you have four hard pieces spinning and not gripping rather than two.

I hear you... sitting on my mod cash for now, going to sit it out and see if I have to buy winters. It will get super cold in Chicago in next 2 days, so will see if I end up with hockey pucks. They did kick ass on my test drive though. Unrelated, but just read up on some tinting posts....Think a few of you guys used Umbra? I'm out in Schaumburg, so looking local. |

As and xi should do the job but if winters and xi must be like snowmobile. As udub (Seth) he swear by it. I have an I with winters and today was awesome. It felt likevthe more snow that fell the better it handled. I'll find out how well they do at 4am on chicago unplowed roads. Kinda lookin foward to it.
Ps. Niño at umbra is in schuamburg. Good work |

a little rough, but when the snow hits, I want to hug them, the only catch is that you have to lay off the highway speeding a bit...the speedrating is relatively low, but in winter I dont really care
the sound Ive gotten used to, its loud, but funny loud....when you drive by people on the street it sounds like its raining around them? People get very confused, and I get a good chuckle

Can't complain. Plowed through the 8 inches of snow this morning.
Had them on last winter as well. My first experience with winters, so I don't know how they compare to other brands. |
