The 328i was noticeably lighter and more steering feel but would never get rid of an M3 in favor in a million years.
while most agree with you, some would also say the E45 330i ZHP is the best car out there too. That's why I got the 328i, same concept. Except non-performance model

Its all about straightline speed. FRS sucks.

The performance and involvement gap is just going to keep getting bigger and bigger. Assuming there are enough of us, there will always be high-horsepower visceral machines available, and the power to weight ratios will continue to go up (unless regulations dictate otherwise). No one will buy the new model if the "numbers" are smaller than the old model's.

On the other end of the spectrum, once self-driving cars are (inevitably) commonplace, power will continue to drop in search of efficiency. Who cares if it has no "go" if you're not the one pushing the pedal? These rolling living rooms will be all about comfort and reliability (can Toyota get more beige? YES.)

I just hope they're all programmed to hang out in the slow lane...

Maybe we will be able to get mods that send out electric stimuli to confuse the beige toyotas and make them drive in a ditch, safely.

LOL have you driven an FR-S?

It is incredibly slow and overrated. I had mine for 2 weeks and took a loss selling a car with 1500 miles on it just to get into another M3.

okay admittedly, FR-S is the wrong comparator....but it's certainly have better weight balance than a 550hp 4500 lb Bentley.

but that steering feel alone and the 200 lb weight savings is good for an extra 0.2 secs at Laguna Seca?

I hope they make more responsive, direct, and tactile and precise feeling cars, even if they are slower. In other words, this is what Porsche does, especially with the Cayman and Boxster.

Power gets old quickly; but how a great car feels under your control never does, even if it's not that most powerful.

Perhaps "Ant Power"? Ant's power to its body weight is one of nature's wonder...

Then there are cars like the 918 spyder which is an absolute glorious machine. Hopefully that technology trickles down to m3 level cars sooner than later. Maybe someone can code a KERS button for the track!

I don't think that HP will be swept under the rug. Just look at the Tesla S for example. An electric car with 416HP/443TQ with a 0-60 in 4.2, I am sure over time this will increase while still offering a higher MPG.

At the same time, I don't think m3's were always the fastest in its class? Just fastest around the track in its class.

Some modded CTS-V just smoked me though tonight.....brrrapblurrrtpoppppsnaappp.

It sounded gnarly and looked pretty good.

My friend is on the fence between a Caddy or M3. He says that the Caddy is cheaper to get more power out of it and the BBK is already there. What is keeping him on the fence is that he knows the M3 out performs in the end.

As I have grown older I have started to care less about HP and more about over all performance. I think this is why I went with the M3. The power is still there and I could have gone with something cheaper and boosted the crap out of it but I didn't.

On another note, I may buy a ESS SC and get it tuned by BPM. Power will always be one of the most exhilarating parts of driving a car for enthusiasts.

Did you see my post about the Tesla S? That is one interesting car.
