last time i tried to use a mac... installing an app.... disc in.. run stuff.. update extensions folder try again.. reboot like 3 times... blah blah...

now to stay on topic... yes... if you are running an minimal version, just for this... go for XP ... stable, and less resource intensive than Vista

Another option is to buy a 50' long USB cable. That is what the BT pro kit comes with.

Macs aren't really that difficult... Atleast not the new ones... but this is WAY Off Topic... THis isn't helping the OP problem in the slightest.

TinyXP is free and better than real windows XP (I run it).
VMWare Fusion is $70-80 and better than Parallels (I run it).
Mac's are infinitely better than PC's, and if you disagree, it's because you a) aren't willing to pay the price for an error-free computer or b) Just don't know what you're missing. I speak from 22 years of experience on a PC, switched to Mac, and will never look back.

I run TinyXP through Fusion, but if you want to save $80, use bootcamp. Fusion is nice because you can run windows programs right inside the Mac OSX, on your doc, with Windows out of sight. Windows really does run better on a Mac, especially when you put it in it's place... on a small little virtual machine in the corner.

Would rather have something free...I'm only using Windows for the BT tool anyway..

Oh yeah, and Mac>PC....just accept it. I thought the car analogy was good. It's like you are driving an S600, but get a Kia loaner for a couple of days.

"TinyXP not only runs fast, but takes up only 400Mb total space on your system hard drive. Thats the "WINDOWS" folder, "Documents and settings" and "Program Files." By using only 40Mb of RAM, this allows your PC to run fast, I mean VERY fast!"

It's a trimmed version of Windows - 55MB - but still 100% operational and functional.

I take no responsibility for anything, legal or otherwise, though!

More options:

1) Fix your software problem and move the desktop to the garage (10 minute job). Do whatcha gotta do and take your desktop back to your room.

2) Get a laptop or borrow one from a friend. Can get one for less than $200. Bid on one on ebay or ubid.com

3) Get a long USB cable

4) Make a whole in your wall and drive your car to your desktop. (NOT recomennded unless you have a lot of free time)

5) Go to a friend or neighbor's house and do it there with their laptop if they don't wana lend it to you (since you don't know anything about computers anyway and might brake it)

6) steal a lap top (not recommended either)

7) go to a professional shop and have them do it

8) Don't do it at all and sell your BT cable and forget about it

9) Call the GEEK Squad

OR

10) ask a rhetorical question and discuss all these options in a forum

either way its all good

good luck

i can run Vista with no problem

I believe you are correct. Free to run Boot Camp on a partition and free Windows 7. Now that's a deal.

I use both. Previously, VMware's Fusion was faster with better USB connectivity. However, Parallels latest version (4.0.x) is now noticeably faster than Fusion. Both work well, though.
