Barf on the seatbelts
So on the way home today my daughter (18 months old) barfs. Luckily most of it went on her clothes and the blanket covering here. But a fair bit went on the child seat, including it's straps.
I just wiped the straps down with water (manual and other places seem to indicate using any cleaners and/or soaking the straps are a big no no) and most of it came off, although they are stained. Not sure if they still smell since I can't get rid of the smell around me at the minute. Any other parents out there who have any tips for cleaning up barf from the car and child seats? Oh, and the ride home was about 40 minutes, she waited till we were 2 minutes from home before barfing. She's still all soppy and not feeling too well so I'm still feeling sorry for her |

No real solution for you but I had a similar problem.
When car was new, we went for a spirited drive in the poconos and my 1 year old daughter did not enjoy the ride. Fortunately the car seat took most of it. Seatbelt was untouched (attached behind the seat). At least be glad that you were 2 minutes away from home and did not have to drive a long time after the event. We had to stop in the middle of nowhere to remove most of it. Took a lot of time to clean-up the seat at home. Same thing happened to a friend's car on a twisty scenic drive north of SF. Lesson is twisty road + DS mode + baby = bad idea. FM

Definately must use a cleaner formulated to kill the emzymes and bacteria that can go off and create a foul odor nightmare.....It is also good to use an odor elimiator/neutralizer, not something that just covers or masks it with an artificial scent.

Maybe try Woolite PetStain Remover? It's safe on carpets, I use it on clothes sometimes too. Make sure to "fan" the stain using water.

You could use regular woolite in a warm water mix. Get yourself a soft adult size toothbrush and agitate the affected areas, you can use a blow dryer to dry the belts once you're finished.

Trade in your daughter for a non-pukey one.

I thought all kids came with pukey option only
I was pretty busy last night dealing with an ill daughter and trying to do a basic clean of everything. The washing machine has been going non stop cleaning barf off everything from baby clothes, my clothes, blankets, bedding, any machine washable bits of car seats. It seems the car got away with it. I did a basic clean of it last night. The barf was caught on the baby, the car seat and a blanket. The car seat cover has been washed and is ok, but the seat belts on the car seat stink. I guess I'm going to try some of the stuff suggested on them to try and get rid of the smell. At least my daughter seems to be feeling better, I'm staying home with her today and she's eating again and seems more active, although I'm glad she's peacefully taking her afternoon nap at the moment. |
