BMW 335d Gearbox issue

Hey guys.

A current issue i am experiencing with my 335d MY06

The car drives much better since the remap, but still a bit hesitant from start off and can feels the thump occasionally from the gear changes up or down.

I have booked the car in for a gearbox software upgrade on my car which after reading up can possibly cure the problem,

I will send car in to dealer in January 2012 and will report back once the upgrade has been carried out.

In the meantime please share your experiences or thoughts

regards

I sometimes experience the same in my MY06 335d and have been advised to have the software updated as you are having.

My car is also mapped and have been told that updating the software will overwrite the remap, so be careful!

That is correct iceman, i confirmed today with the dealer and the map will get wiped off, luckily i have had the car mapped at evolve, who like any other reputable mapper will re-do the map FOC on site (already confirmed with evolve) after repairs or warranty bookings etc.

Out of interest, how much have you been quoted for the upgrade?

Bazz780,

They didn't quote me as I didn't ask them to....come to think of it, they didn't offer to do the upgrade after even telling me that a software update would fix the issue!...

I would try resetting the adaptions 1st. Its probably locked onto the old settings and is just confused.

Much cheaper to purchase a BT Tool and do it all yourself.

Mate!!

i did the adaptation reset and BLIMEY!!!

The car is totally transformed!

During the adaptation reset you feel as though nothing is happening

i then switched ignition off, took key out and then back in and did half ignition then started the engine (i believe this reduces chances of warning lights on dash coming on as it lets the car learn parameters again)

Not convinced that anything happened, i casually drove off from my parking spot and upon tapping the accelerator immediately i noticed a difference!

the car now has even more sensitive throttle response, changed gears much smoother and pulls unbelievably - it just feels soo much more free flowing!

Best part is my local mpg has climbed from approx 24mpg to 32mpg - dont know how and why but im not complaining

I will now see how it goes until jan and may need to cancel the ££ appointment with bmw and save myself a bundle.

Thanks to Yvesd

I cant believe it!

Pleased to have been of service!

Now, if you really want some fun, do it again and this time, perform the full BMW adaption procedure.

See attached!!

What will be the outcome of this?

Is this what bmw do when they say gearbox software update? Or is that completely different and useless?

Hi,

This isnt a 'software update' but it is PUMA gearbox relearning procedure after adaptions have been re-set.

I suspect BMW rarely do it as its almost impossible in the day time due to traffic.

It does work however. I have done it a couple of times late at night on a quiet stretch of local country road. Not that hard if you concentrate but does take best part of an hour.

You can feel the gearbox getting smoother the further into the adaption procedure you get.

Try it

ahaha, so you have to do this after a gearbox adaption reset then..
(i bet it would take almost an hour to do it!)

I had mine reset after a jerky change 3 months into having the car....touch wood its still fine in full auto mode!
