Urvesh,
That soon after the warranty expired I would be looking for some SERIOUS amounts of goodwill from BMW. I'm talking 100% parts and a good chunk of labour (over 50% surely?)!!! |

I've read through all the posts and now I feel sick with worry, I have a 318d M Sport with 39k on the clock on have got those 2 dredded light come up. I've book in with BMW Leeds to havea look but with it been 4 years old have I got a chance of any goodwill? Do all main dealers have the option of asking for goodwill? Also anyone used BMW Leeds (Scott Hall)?
Thanks |

Mate, the maximum it should be is £450 - with a bit of luck (and some puppy dog eyes!) you will be able to state your dissapointment and get them to cover the cost of parts.
Don't worry - £450 is £8 a week for a year! Gaz |

£650 seems a bit steep - I would get a second opinion. North Oxford BMW quoted me £450 originally about 3 months ago - I complained about the fact that there were so many DSC faults that have occured and I did not have a full BMW service history (I like working on BMW myself but still using BMW parts). The end result is that they paid towards the cost of the repair part - about £140 off and a bill less than half of your quote. I was VERY impressed with North Oxford BMW and for BMW UK making this offer. Really, the DSCs are failing way too early on lots of these cars, so I suggest that you try another dealer and express your dissapointment that the DSC has failed so quickly on a car that is a "prestige marque". In my opinion it is bordering on a safety critical design flaw that could end in an accident. Finally, if you get no satisfaction, then there's always consumer TV programs that seem to love this type of thing. Although, that's a bit of a thermo-nuclear option!!! Good luck Gaz |

I got 80% off the parts but my bill was 100quid cheaper than yours - just goes to show that the streets aren't paved in gold in the South!!!
I think you have a good result and that BMW UK are doing the right thing by their customers. Gaz |

My 2007 E90 had a DSC unit failure with only 22k on the clock, had it repaired today. he car was about 4 weeks out of warranty (typical) But fortunately BMW agreed to meet 100 per cent of the cost excluding the cost of the brake fluid (£7.89). So even if its out of warranty, still worth a call to BMW

they gave me 80% off parts, i think dealerships charge different rates for labour. the fact the part i need is on back order is a bit of a piss take but at least the repair has a 2 year warranty. I'm slightly bitter about paying £73 for them to put my key fob into the computer on the reception desk and tell me the problem in less than 10 seconds, i believe they call it. . . "Joy"

My dsc failed last week, at 14,000 miles and ten weeks out of warranty and BMW not really that bothered. I'm currently haggling for a reduction in the labour costs after eventually getting them to accept 100% liability for the part. They're not doing much to keep me as a Beemer driver, since they say my quotes from this website and others are 'hearsay' and don't prove anything!!

I was advised BMW would pay 80% of the cost without me even asking for this so here's the final bill: Hydro unit (B34.51.6.797.896) = £30.47 Replace DSC hydro unit = £187 Total plus Vat = £255.53 So, after the horror stories at the start of this thread and in other forums I'm actually quite happy with this since I didn't buy the car from a bmw dealer and it's well out of warranty. |

another failure here.......
ive got a March 06 320d with 42600 on the clock about 4 weeks ago got the dreaded bong and the lights on the dash codes cc-id 24 & 35 Visited a dealer last week who wanted £59 + VAT to diagnose the problem, despite me telling them the error lights & codes?? they couldnt book me in for 2 weeks so i said i would wait and have a ring around. just been googling the problem and have found the same fault with a lot of early e90's on 3 different forums................. I spoke to an independant and he knew straight away when i described the lights/codes i was getting, he quoted about £540 to fix it but im after BMW doing the work, parts lasting less than 50k to my mind is not good This is the 2nd major problem ive had with the car that ive had 18 months, previously 2 doorlocks failed and were eventually paid for under good will by BMW i had to pay the labour Anyone advise the best way to approach a dealer for some goodwill with this...... apart from the puppy dog eyes After 20+ years trouble free with Vauxhalls & VW's im seriously not impressed with my first "prestige marque" The ultimate driving machine............... |

Just realised this was the error I spotted on the instrument cluster when I went to pick up my car from cargiant.
It was in the dealer for a week before I picked it up again. Never any mention of what work was done! Seems like I got lucky. |

BMW are no longer replacing the whole DCS hydraulic unit like they were doing at the start when this issue raised its head. Then they were replacing the unit at a cost of £1200 plus labour but have since provided a fix that isolates the valve thats failed inside the unit at a much reduced cost. My dealer confirmed that BMW will not now authorise a full replacement unless there are other serious issues and that just the new fix costs BMW no more than around £160 for parts and around £8 for brake fluid as that needs changing as part of the repair.
In reality anyone going to a dealer now should be paying very little for this repair and if BMW pay for the parts the labour should be no more than £250 as most charge £120 per hour and its a two hour job - apparently. |

Hi,
My DSC light came on and I took my E90 320d to the dealers to have it diagnosed. My car had 68k miles with FBMWSH so I was expecting this to be covered by a goodwill guesture. But no, I was told that my DSC hydraulic unit needed replacing and BMW would only pay 50% of the part. I called a local place who have the same diagnostic stuff as BMW. The guy came to me and plugged it in. He said that he can do for £400, using original BMW parts. I snapped him up. He came the next day and took about 3 hours and hey presto! all done light is off and the new unit has 12 months warranty. Really good guy - definitley recommended. for this failure, which is obviously a known fault hence a repair kit being produced to happen at 44,000 and BMW will accept no responsibility is a disgrace imo, i have owned my first and last BMW now facing a £465 job just to get the car through MOT very very disappointed............... |
