Alloy design change?

Gave the new motor it's virginal wash today... noticed that the 230 alloys seemed to have had a design change.

Pretty sure on my '56 335i the 230 wheels were flat on the ID edge to edge (ie. front to back)

The 'same' 230s on my new 330d have a little step down about an inch wide - so it's thinner at the back edge of the wheel.

Does any of that make sense.... didn't know whether it might be a design change due to... cracked problems....?

Could take pics tomorrow if required!

Yep no step on the inside of my 230s.

The front looks a little different too, just behind the spokes.
