What a tool. I wish they would have sliced his car in half with the jaws of life. Just for giggles (and to put out the fire). Folks like this give us all a bad name.

We are entitled to special treatment. I don't see the issue here, the windows cost less than a decent parking spot in Boston. Smart move economically.

as bad as this driver is, the best way they could have hooked that hose up is not where they did, and there is no reason to break the windows. there are 3 ports on the hydrant. the left port would have been the best bet for the shortest distance over the car with minimal to no kink in the hose

From a kink-reduction point of view, your comment is right on target. However, if the fireman had used the side port, we wouldn't have this nationwide story and a great photo of an idiot driver's car. This guy's lucky they did not push his car out of the way with the Engine. [

Nope. Thats not how that valve works. First you never want sharp turns or bends in the water flow that can increase friction and reduce water flow/pressure. So a 90 degree turn right at the hydrant would be a big no-no. The 90 degree ports on either side of that valve are for hooking up to another pumper for the purpose of increasing the water pressure. One hose will go to the pumper's intake, then a return hose is snaked back to this valve to the other side. Basically its adding a closed loop in the system to build water pressure should pressure be low. Hydrants aren't high pressure water, just large volume, its the same pressure as your house. So if you have a long hose lay or if you have to throw water far or high you need to add pressure via more pumping.

They had water supply problems during that fire last night btw.

1. Hope all the firefighters we're safe. 2. I don't feel bad for the driver at all. Careless act by him. 3. That's what he gets for driving an amateur looking 3 anyway. lol
