This is a bad idea because in your price range you will get a car that is long out of warranty and has a ton of miles, which means when shit goes wrong you better have some change on hand to pay for repairs. BMW parts are not cheap and neither are the repairs and if your not handy with the wrench, you will be spending some serious cash any time something goes wrong.

At 17 I doubt your making serious bank and a car like this could get you in serious financial trouble.

Unfortunately, this is the reality. This is good guidance^.

When spending it all on a vehicle such as what you're interested in, one sensor gone and you're out of a car. I don't think any of us want to feel responsible for suggesting something out of your budget.

I say an E46.

Thanks boss, curious though do you think it will be possible to find one by june? I also can negotiate the price, saying that the new I belive F36 3 series will be out and that the price of the cars will depricate. Thanks for your kind reply.
I think you could get lucky if you have till June. It will be tough but keep looking through craigslist autotrader etc, car prices are at their high right now. Give it a month or two and everything is going to drop drastically.

e46 325 for you.

or gti/s2k/cooper s

I was in your shoes 6 months ago, I spent 4 months until I found a clean unmolested E90 in my price range. Only buy it if a) you can repair everything but the engine yourself and b) you plan to keep it for at least 3-4 years.

I bought mine because I knew I was only putting 3-4k on per year, meaning that if I bought it (Relatively) cheap, after a few years of me adding minimal mileage, value (relative to others) would even out and it would cost less for me to run the car for those 3-4 years than anything newer.

Reason it took me so long to find was I was extremely anal about it having 1/2 owners and being only highway driven. Obviously need to have been perfect mechanically. I looked up the original owner before buying Also bought from a private dealer who promised to cover any repairs within a reasonable amount of time (few months). If you buy a car from a dealer, it's likely to have been sitting for a few months, and some things in our cars don't like to sit so best have that assurance.

there was no 535 in 04. The 5 series is more expensive than the 3 so do the math there. At $12k your 545 will have more miles on her than a Vegas hooker.

Didn't make those in 04 and a 525i in 04 will run the same as an 06 325i. I would wait it out and worst case but an e46 if you're not gonna have money for repairs. Cause like the guy said above, high mileage= a lot of money in fixing things

Tax returns, people are buying cars at market value cause they're getting money back. Will only last a few more weeks.

Lowest I found is an 04 525 with 168k miles for 12,900.

They're not cheap either. I think you don't care about how it drives, only what you're driving.

LOL at 168k miles he ain't gonna be driving her for long. It will look really pretty parked in the driveway pending repairs though.

IMO yes, have had both and they are pretty much the same. E90 has a few things that are better but not much.

lol exactly. Its not worth it, just to say that you drive a newer bodystyle BMW. When you're on the side of the road, it doesn't matter what you're in.... you're screwed.

You're kinda right, but if you're picky, there is a difference.

My 330ci had a cockpit feel to its driving position due to the recessing dash on the passengers side, coming to an apex right about where the radio starts.

Other than that, it feels like a Bimmer should....
