Just done my port relocation. Took far longer to print the stickers out than move the physical port ('kin Windows, I can find the blimmin printer. It's right there next to you FFS, I thought you were supposed to be the smart one)

OP You have my sympathy
FWIW I see no reason not to post the reg unless instructed not to do so

It might be in a lockup. Or it just might be in a vehicle dismantlers/drive tarmacer where there is a chance of it being seen. Nothing to loose at this point

thefts ...obd

at the risk of sounding daft...is there no way of putting a switch into the feed wire for the fuel pump or something similar and hiding it under the dash. it's what we did in the days of ford cortinas etc. no fuel and car is going nowhere.must be a low tech solution out there.

Any way thanks for the support guys. Insurance company will call on monday and take things from there.

Ill be bumping this thread for a good few weeks to make sure people start taking action.
Your car has to go somewhere.

It might well end up in bits but many are used for other things.

At least giving the reg and pictures it allows people the small chance to spot it or any parts that might have come from it.

It has gone now anyway, so no harm trying.

That's an excellent write-up.. however, does an OBD port need to be connected to anything when relocating somewhere else or can it just be sitting anywhere? Feel free to PM in case ppl get funny about this LOL.

The OBD port is just a bunch of wires with a multi socket on the end, so as long as you're not putting any strain on it just move it where ever it will go, baring in mind that there's not a lot of spare wire to move it far & no it doesn't need to be connected to anything, except if BMW want to access it.

Sorry to hear this OP, BMW really need their balls cut off for this idiotic flaw (actually, I'm beginning to doubt they have balls in the first place as their refusal to even acknowledge this problem defies logic...).

Coincidentally, my OBD2 extension cable arrived today and I ordered a Disklok first thing in the morning before logging in here.

They will take sometime to design and print those stickers.
I hope it works well. Once they arrive, I will provide update on it.
I'm VERY keen to get my hands on a more professional sticker than the home-made amateurish one I'm currently planning to use - keep us all updated please!

Cheers mate, its appalling how BMW are not yet acknowledging this is happening.

Unfortunately, i feel they're probably not going to do anything about this either till it gets mass media attention

It would be a PITA to just tuck it out of the way and have no access. I would buy an extension cable and move it some way away but still accessible but in range of a motion sensor.
Add a dummy port(you can not see it is not connected) and hopefully the scum bags will give up.

Where did you get your disklok from? Seems to be the only way to stop the bastards. Moving the OBD may stop your car from being stolen, but your airbag is still at risk! Diskloks look to be the way forward

Ebay - new but unused! But if I was unsuccessful there the cheapest I found online was Larkspeed for £70 posted: http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?a=...p=13001TNMSILV

The one I've got on the way is yellow though - I figured it might as well be as bright/obvious as possible. And to think I used to take the piss out of my sister for continuing to use a Disklok on her car...

Cheers, don't see any OBD2 stickers but will contact him anyway. Had a chuckle when I saw you could buy "BMW Alarm System" and "BMW Security System" stickers - almost like an invitation to thieves to break into the car because the alarm system's pish...

Sorry to hear about your car mate, hope these scum get what they deserve in karma! I think I'm actually off to move my OBD now seen as lots of London is not exactly the safest place for a these BMWs that you spend all this money on, and effectively be stolen in minutes

Can the motion sensor not just be relocated to near the OBD port, would then pick up movement.

BMW won't do anything about this. A large proportion of BMWs are the default choice for many company car drivers. They will keep choosing them no matter and they don't care if they get stolen. Costs the driver nothing and car gets replaced with a new shiny one.
