I have just bought a 06 plate 320d M Sport and I have exactly the same problem. When the phone is paired with the car I cannot hear siri's voice but the cars microphone hears me and siri can act on my commands. I have tried everything on this thread and cannot get it to work. I have 2 playstation Bluetooth headsets (old and new version) and they work fine with siri over Bluetooth, so I am thinking it must be something to do with the car. I have an iphone 5 running ios 6.1.4...

My siri over BT works just fine.
01/07 e92 I have my phone paired to the car for calls and also have it paired over a belkin bluetooth dongle for music streaming. When I hold my home button siri speaks into my sound system and uses the cars microphone also. I have an iPhone 5 with the latest OS |

Hi
I'm the OP and noticed a few replies to this since I asked the asked the question a while ago. Just wondering for those of you for whom this is working - when your phone is connected to the car what symbol displays on your radio screen? Is it the little antenna icon or is it the signal bars icon? Mine is a little antenna icon (see pic below) but I think newer cars have the signal bars icon. I think this difference may indicate to a newer software version in newer cars which may explain why Siri works over BT. I may be wrong but just a thought. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts especially from those with 07 cars - as mine was built 01/07. May be a software update will enable this. This is the icon I have on my radio display when the phone is connected: Any ideas??? Thanks. |

Rather interesting. 2009 here and I've got bars. Also interesting, I've got different (chrome-tipped) knobs. Noticeably different eject button, too.

This is what I meant - a difference in the software versions may be why Siri works over BT for some of you on later cars it seems.
How would I go about updating the software in my car? I know it doesn't mean it will fix this issue but worth a try! Also how can I check that these 'signal bars' or anything else are in fact features of a software upgrade?? The chrome tip radio knobs I believe were introduced on LCI cars. Mine is pre-LCI. Thanks. |

I've got a 07/07 e92 that does both. It shows the antenna when either connecting or searching for a signal, then bars for the signal strength. It's got chrome knobs too.

BTW using the voice search with the Google app works - once you perform a voice search, the audio mutes, you speak and the feedback is heard through the car speakers and the audio returns when it's done. Why can't Siri work like this - based on this it suggests the car or the software in the car isn't the issue but instead how Apple handle Siri over bluetooth?!?! |

Just wanted to reply back, mine is the antannea, and I have the chrome knobs. I had replied a while back, Siri works over bluetooth for me. I have an 07 and on my car, the bluetooth software is not in the radio, but in the MULF2 module in my trunk. The bluetooth antenna and microphone connect to it. Can't say how the newer cars works, but I heard at some point they got rid of the MULF2 and just integrated the bluetooth into the radio itself.

Mine is the one with the non chrome knobs, the software version of the stereo is as follows:-
SW H8S 01-2006 55.20.5 Ver ST10 01-2006 5.40.2 Wonder if someone with the chrome knobs on the stereo could check their version numbers? |
