Another happy e-mapped 335d owner
I linked up with Simon from e-maps this morning for my third car to be mapped by him.
The first two were both petrol variants (E36323i/E46 M3) Whilst these maps didn't deliver massive performance increases, the cars certainly both drove a helluva lot better. However.... Having just had the 335d transformed this morning, I am still laughing from the gains. It's simply staggering what can be done with a few ecu tweaks. It actually feels quicker than my M3, and that was damned fast. Totally different power delivery to the M3, but just as addictive. As always, Simon has vowed to re flash my ecu if the need arises. Lol I will be going to Germany next month to give it some beans. Any idea what this thing will do top end? I had 176 out of the M3 on the Autobahn, so I am guessing it will be similar. |

I don't have a video cam, but I may be able to get it on my phone.
Having said that, I can't see myself holding a cam at over 170. It gets scary enough at those speeds. I have put a few miles on her today and I still can't get over it. I reckon it will easily crack 170. I can't wait for next month. Are there any tracks in the UK where I can do a top speed run? I reckon it needs about 2 miles to max out |

Simon did mine in December - great result.
I must admit that the top end number dosen't really float my boat - its how you get there that counts. The mapped 335d still gives a few chaps with 'proper' performance cars a bit of a surprise. Shame I can't get a 320d badge for the back ....... |

Just beware of dealers re-programming your car - mine got overwritten a month or so ago, and I'm starting to miss it...

Here's a good question? Does anyone on here have a 335d that is not mapped?
I have to agree the remapped 335d is quite an animal. Good luck with her and get used to the extra power safely.

Anyhow, back to 'smiffy'. Glad you're happy with it. Definately a mod that you instantly notice. Enjoy. Any handling mods in the pipeline then? |

I am quite tempted by the new range of big brakes offered by BMW though. Problem is, they are a bit more difficult to hide from the wife |

Yes, in the UK I would seriously consider it Especially for the increased refinement and economy that people report as much as vastly improved pace.
But where I am has simply draconian Police (with guns, small dicks and no sense of humour whatsoever) that literally hide in bushes, and have specialised camera/radar cars to nab you and make money. You just never know where they are hiding (detectors are illegal). But usually at the optimum place to catch you out - not black spots. Thankfully you only get a fine, no points. The amount of fine is graded - one friend got caught at slightly silly speeds and paid a staggeringly huge amount and got a suspended 2 year jail sentence, he's now driving like Miss Daisy. I even got caught in a 10km/h Parking zone racing about at 16km/h ... Bloody reckless, I am. My usual journey is almost exclusively city driving (50 km/h ~30mph) and the odd A road (80 km/h ~ 50 mph) so having the already quick 335D even faster would just be frustrating. D.

Sounds promising, since mine is a Jan or Feb build. Just emailed Simon at Emaps to confirm. There was speculation that BMW were moving to the new Bosche V17 ECU which has yet to have the encryption broken.

Firstly the contents of my post above are wrong!! (That'll teach me to listen to theory without putting it into practice first.) I went to Bruntingthorpe at the weekend for the VMax event, unfortunately my remapped 335d would still not pull past 155mph, which is approx 4100rpm in 6th (and not 5th as I had been told!!). The guy who tuned the car was also there and checked the map to ensure that the limiter had been raised and it had, for good measure he raised it further (??), but it made no difference, the car would just stop at 155mph. The Tuner said that there was not much more he could do but explained that when the infamous DMS 535d was recorded at 175mph at Nardo Testing Track it too seemed to halt progress at 155mph before eventually kicking on again to 175mph, but needed a further 2 miles to achieve this. Bruntingthorpe is only 1.6 miles and I had probably hit 155mph with a half mile left to travel....so maybe more distance needed? Has anyone with a remapped 335d taken it beyond 155mph? There were still many highlights on the day, one being the run I had against the new V8 M3. I outlaunched him but by the end of the first straight (1/2 mile approx) he had gone a couple of lengths up, I managed to get back in front around the 180 deg bend and had a car lengths advantage at the exit (exit at about 75mph), over the next 1.6 miles he managed to just edge by me very slowly and eventually was only 3 car lengths in front with the gap holding station by the end. Jules. |
