It all depends how wide the rims are, with 8.5 inch wide rims the largest you can run is likely 255-265, like the OEM Sport rears. With 8 inch perhaps 245.

Recommended rim width for 255 rubber is 8.5-10 inch rim.

The maximum rear fitment is 245/40R17, and up front you could use 225/45R17. 235/45R17 normally fits as well.

Gary,

For the e90 335i will I be able to have the following square setup: 255/40/17 on rims 17/8.5 ?

What should the ET be, so that I don't rub the fenders or the struts? Car is lowered on Koni yellows and H&R sports.

many thanks

Thanks for in the info Gary. Now what brand tire do you recommend, to give the handling and steering response of the runflats in a non-runflat? Thanks

What kind of price range were you looking for? Summer or All-season? What type of driving will you be doing? This will help in determining a tire that will suit your needs.

well for price doesn't really matter, more about finding the perfect tire....Summer tires, i live in atlanta so i should be able to get away with them...... pretty spirited.... but care the most about handling and response...

Dunlop Direzza Star Spec and Hankook Ventus RS-3 would be my first choices. Bridgestone RE 11 and Yoko Advan Neova 08 are also great choices, but since they are 50% more expensive it's a no brainer.

Tirerack has a comparison test of the following tires: Bridgestone RE11, Yoko Advan Neova 08, Dunlop Direzza Star Spec and Kumho Ecsta (MX?) and they finished in that order, but with the first 3 being very close.

The Hankook Ventus RS-3 is a brand new tire, replacing the RS-2 which were very competent themselves but with stronger sidewalls, which were the complaints about the RS-2. All those tires are great on track, but I was told if you overdrive them, the Hankooks are more likely to fare better.

Don't take my word for it, do your research.

Now, if someone can answer me (Post no. 6), that would be great!

The Direzza Z1 Star spec has outstanding handling as well as wet and dry grip, but many find it pretty noisy for a daily driver. If you aren't one to keep the radio up loud enough to drown out the noise, consider the Bridgestone RE-11 which equals the Dunlop in handling and grip but is much quieter riding.

Looks like the guys above have pretty much wrapped up the whole Summer tire business...

Dunlop Z1 SS, Hankook RS3, Bridgestone RE11, Toyo R1R, Nitto NT05
