Nice. Shiv, I assume you will be one of the tuners offering custom tunes on OpenFlash. Will you be able to do this remotely?

Good eye. Yes, my team and I helped develop the N54 flash protocol for the company that manufactures the device that JZW uses. We actually field tested that device early this year before it was even available to the public. Excellent piece of hardware and it's not surprise that our device shares much of the same BOM. Very well suited for the updates we have coming in the pipeline. Think real-time data graphics a la Nissan GTR.

Thanks for all the support gentlemen. I just waiting to hear from the admin about site sponsorships. At which point I'll fill in the pricing/availability blanks.

FWIW I found this on another thread...

I haven't had my DME updated recently because BMW cannot update it since I retrofitted my car with CIC navi and when they hook up to it their software cannot see my CCC (replaced with CIC) and says to fix before proceeding. But I believe it was updated since Aug. 2011 before the CIC retrofit.

If anyone needs help with updating the DME version, I have all the software to do the flash on the MSD80/81. I would recommend making a backup of your current ROM before doing so. For those in question, I have an MSD80 but recently bought an MSD81 to play with flashing, cloning, and retrofitting.

What software do you use to update the DME? Winkfp?

What hardware do you use? DCAN cable?

How long does it take?

Our hardware/software team consists of myself and a 3 other colleagues here at work. We write the code and do all the preliminary testing. Shiv and the guys at Vishnu were instrumental by generously offering their tuning knowledge and providing the mapping-related info that we needed to turn a flashing device into an actual tuning tool. We also look forward to working closely with other tuners and hopefully we can provide them with a good transport mechanism for their tuning skills.

I also believe that the term "open source" is bothering some people who feel that it misrepresents the nature of this product. I do not want to get into any conflict with anything, on any forum, about anything. So I will erase any references to "open source" just to keep things peaceful. The name of the product will still remain "OpenFlash" simply because the ROM editing process is just that, open (ie, not encrypted).

Hi guys,
I'm not sure the pics that Rombinhood posted did justice to the hardware. Here is a good pic comparing the OpenFlash Tablet, a Cobb Accessport and a BMW key fob. It's about as big as it can be while still holdable in one hand.

Does this product come with any maps (like COBB OTS)? Or, do we need to basically create the maps ourselves or have a tuner do one? I'm assuming maps can be eventually shared and open to the public once people choose to release them?

As mentioned in the FAQ, a patch function will allow you to update your original map to a tuned map. Different tunes for different mod levels/fuels. Just pick the desired map/stage, click on the patch button to modify the original map automatically. Save as... another file name and load it to the DME. They can be tinkered with from there if needed be. But they are pretty good out of the box. The highest "stage" maps run 18psi of boost, tapering to 16 up top.
