Okay guys so here is the deal, i replaced my fired mosfets on my DME however i did not get my DME installed yet. I Fired my DME when i was on Cobb stage 1+.

1. Do i need to reset rest the map to default on the DME ?

2. How can i make sure that such a thing does not happen to me again?

1. Not quite sure what you mean here, are you asking if you need to reflash to a stock map? If that's your question - no, you don't need to reflash.
2. Replace ALL mosfets, otherwise you run a high risk of another failed mosfet. Once you have one go out, others are soon to follow...ask me how I know. That's in addition to being stranded in the worst possible place and at the worst possible time.

Hey guys, I'm getting sporadic limp mode under WOT and the error code is always DME code 2D58 and DSC 5E19 nothing else. Have to pull over as no power available, then restart - after which, all's fine again. I can do WOT a couple more times with no problems and then upon keep trying it would suddenly hit the issue again.
2D58 - DME digital motor electronics, internal failure: control nominal torque?
5E19 DSC: Engine management: interface

I tried everything to no avail except replacing the DME. This was suggested by a local BMW tech. Any one know if this is a MOSFET issue? The code says internal failure in DME. If so, what MOSFETS to replace or check/test out for DSC/ABS interface?

Don't think you will need much of a diy once you get in
there and see it. Remove the cover, lift up on the DME a bit to get to the connectors and then unplug them.

The DME is the largest module in there.

Each plug is different and can only go back in the correct position.

There are little levers and such to unlock, open, etc. just take a moment to study each connector before you go yanking away at it. They unplug/plug by moving a lever which then pries the plug out or pulls itself back in.

If you are pulling hard you are doing something wrong.

3 plugs total.

Good Luck!

If you dont have experience working with soldering on a PCB, better to find someone local. There are TV repair shops everywhere. Google and start calling them. They might overcharge the **** out of you to do the work once they find out it is for a car, but they have the right gear.

I took it to some TV guy in the suburbs that was in a run down strip mall. It was really questionable looking on the outside, but he had all the right gear to do the work. Some sort of arm held the iron and had 2 wheels he could turn that moved it horizontally/vertically to get it just in the right spot. It look him probably 10min to do mine, and was worth the price he charged. The guy knew what he was doing.

^ This

Pick a shop that does electronic repairs, preferably amplifiers and stereo equipment as they have the same or similar components in them. We have a local guy that repairs professional audio equipment for musicians and concert halls, but anyone with electronic assembly experience could do it.

Call the dealer and get the price on a new DME and decide if you want to attack it with a soldering iron yourself. I have built things with a soldering iron, and own several of them, but I would not dare attack this job myself. I would rather pay someone with professional tools and experience to protect the DME.

I totally understand why you say find a pro but my options are really scarce. I don't mind driving around Central Texas but so far these shops don't have tools nor knowledge to do this job. People make it sound easy but i wanted to see pics of how to do it.

Hit the google: search for youtube bmw mosfet dme

- Step 1: Learn how to identify the 6 mosfets
- Step 2: Get hot air solder station, solder wick
- Step 3: Practice removing surface mount components on something else!
- Step 4: Remove/Replace mosfets
- Step 5: Profit!

Here is the guy testing the mosfets. They are the 6 in front that are in an upside down U shape. You can see there are 2 'feet' on the front and the back is more of a 'tab'. I'd assume the 'feet' are easier to do than the 'tab' in the back. But idk, never done it.

mj, yeah i watched the testing video already just did not know if there was a video or even pictures of someone replacing them using either a heat gun or iron. Based on my research, it can be done with a heat gun on low setting i just have to be patient and pay close attention.

Hey guys just need some help on this as im very frustrated and cant find the light at the end of the tunnel. Last week i was driving, floored it and got an engine malfunction light and began to idle rough barely running. Read the codes on my tablet with the mhd app and got 29F3 and 30BA. Did some research and replaced all 6 mosfets with new ones from digikey. Problem persisted this time saying Cylinder misfire on cylinders 1,2 and 3. I changed front coils for back coils and same codes. Then replaced plugs and same thing. I measured pulse at the injectors and bank 2 is firing while bank 1 is not. Im at a loss here. Dont know where to go from here.

Sounds like maybe start at the beginning and Re-test the Mosfets?

yeah double check the mosfets, if they are fine, it might be PSU in the DME.

Let me know if you will need to program used DME to your CAS

I ordered more mosfets and had them replaced again, now I get 29f3 fuel pressure sensor, 2F85 dme internal failure, inside temperature sensor signal and 30BA dme internal failure followed by cylinder 1 2 and 3 misfire.

just wanted to thank this thread, I also had 30BB DME fail and tested out the cylinder5 MOSFET. Mine was not completely dead but way off on the readings compared to the other MOSFETS. Got it replaced/repaired and back on the road. Not getting misfire errors anymore but will change out plugs and coils as part of maintenance.

thanks again

F this car. I had 30BB probably 2 years ago and it was cylinder 5's mosfet. Got 30BA today and it was cylinder 1's mosfet. Oddly the ones right next to each other on the board. Hopefully fixed again tomorrow.
