Need opinion: Any radar users
I dont know much about radars and I have friend that wants to sell me his Valetine One, the older version v1.7. He wants $160 I was wondering if it was a good deal and worth getting rid of my escort 8500 for. Anyone that upgraded to the new version is it worth it Or is the v1.7 still even usable.

First, what type 8500 do you have? Is it an X50? Second, that V1 is old. They didn't even test one in this series of testing:
http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-det...rld-tests.html 1.7 correlates with versions in the 2.9 and lower range. A V1 that old is probably way out of tune. Plug in the serial number of the unit on the V1 website. I bethcha you're looking at a $200 tune.

I have a 8500x50 it's been good to but lately giving me a lot of false alerts. I plugged in the serial number but it really didn't tell me anything. It said its not the most up to date but is still probably better then most other radars which gets me no where. Serial number is 1556820432 if you want to see for your self.

I know I love this detector, but lately idk if its because I hard wired it or what but false alerts even on Ka band. But oddly enough no Service message.

when you plug the serial number in and follow the links all the way to the end it quotes you $279 for an upgrade to their latest version. The 1.7 version, according to the V1 website, is not as hot on Ka band as the newest version. And you want it HOT on Ka band.

Thanks for the input guy. I've decided I'm not ready to part with my escort though, going to send it in and for $50 have it recalibrated or whatever it needs done.

radar = sends out radar signals.
radar detector = picks up ("detects") radar signals. x2 on keeping the x50. If it was a newer V1, it'd be worth getting. |

JUST got my new V1 and hardwired it. Love it, and totally worth the $$$, I live in Encinitas where there are a lot of cops getting people for speeding tickets (lots of wealth around here and so lots of BMWs, Merc, Porche, etc.)

That V1 is too old. Buy a new V1 or look into the Passport 9500ci. Great product! Had it and was great but ordered the k40 RL360 because I got it for a good price. Getting it installed tonight but my buddys out performed my 9500ci, but not by a lot. K40 jams harder. (Jammer is an another add on option. Does not come with it). Completely concealed behind bumpers aswell as lights hidden in rear mirror via. A mount i made and has a manual shut off switch you can hide.
Don't know your price range but V1 is very reputable and so is the 9500ci. dash mounted radars will usually have much less range in the rear. V1 is great for the price and has good range in the front. Buy it and if you don't like it, return it. Best bang for your buck = V1. Best concealed for the price = k40 Last edited by hasta la pasta 27; 02-07-2013 at 10:27 AM.. |

I have a 8500 x50 and have debated switching to the v1 in the past, but in the end I stuck with the 8500. I have sent mine back 2x for service though, both for the service required message. 1st cost $40-50 but they do send a new mount and power cord. 2nd time it failed almost immediately so they sent me a new one. They do have great customer service.
