I only got 50,000km on my car and my windshield looks like crap when driving against the sun. Is there anything out there to polish it to a new condition?

Yes and no. Part of that is sandblasting that comes with the miles and really can't be fixed aside from getting new glass.

However, there are a few things you can try to improve it.

Part of the problem is junk on your windshield. A claybar will help with that and will pull any contaminants from the glass as well. You can finish that off with a glass polish like from the autoglym line.

You won't get perfect but the combo of clay followed by a good glass polish will help.

You can also polish glass with Cerium powder and a glass polishing pad or a SurBuf pad after claying. Amazing results. It won't remove deep pitting but will brighten up the glass surface significantly.

BMW glass is notoriously soft and degrades faster than others.

My 17k mile Sekurit windshield is pitted everywhere. Direct sunlight blinds me.

I figured that I give this a shot first and replace the windshield as a second option.

Comprehensive insurance cover is a good thing, If your widscreen ever got shattered by a heavy object as replacement would be no-cost

I'll probably just get it replaced. I'll have to cut a decent amount off of the glass. That's a guaranteed failure waiting to happen... It was born soft and it'll die soft.

There isn't a single square inch where the windshield isn't pitted.

What you are suggesting is insurance fraud - pretty foolish.

I have not tried that particular product but have tried similar ones, and I don't believe they do much beyond what claying followed by a mild glass polish (e.g., Zaino) would do. These types of packages are essentially clay and polish, repackaged. I am now in the habit of doing a claying of all the outside glass during maintenance washes.

When considering replacing the windshield, note that this is a difficult operation to perform perfectly, and that mistakes can lead to either leaks or the windshield wipers not fitting flush (and thus not clearing rain adequately).

I agree the many pits and scratches on BMW glass are a distraction. It's too bad, because the car is so fun to drive, but driving into the sun does make obvious how easily the windshield is scratched. I wonder why BMW chose this particular type of glass; does it have some functional advantage over other, harder types of glass?

My insurance will fix chips with no deductible to try to prevent them from spreading and cracking the whole windshield. Its much cheaper for them to do it this way than to replace the whole glass. Of course they actually have to be chips at risk for spreading into a crack and not just the microscratches.
