LOL does it help with gas mileage?
If it did don't u think Bmw would make it stock... Better mpgs help with sales this day in age. If anything it makes it worse since it helps your throttle response... Makes u wanna drive faster |

Other than trying to make a sell, why do you recommend a complete intake system over a filter replacement? Is the filter not the key component for power gains here? I mean an aftermarket filter (K&N, itg) can pass 50% more air than a stock filter. Don't take it the wrong way. I don't intend to attack, I would just like to get other opinions and reasoning. (You suggested buying a complete intake system over a filter alone, but gave no reason as to why).

the filter may let more air pass.... but you are only as good as your weakest link.
the stock filter box may not be able to let more air pass. personally i think the stock intake is fine for most people. if you dont know to much about cars or want to deal with any problems at all i would get a good filter and ram air scoop. there a bunch to choose from now (swoop scoop, rpi ram air, and afe ram air.) any questions pm me |

No matter what you put in, the engine will only suck what it can regardless of what you put on. The idea is to expose the intake to more cooler air. So to help, a ram air scoop will help along with a K&N filter to increase better flow of air to the intake. Simple as that, anything else is more for sound increase. The closed box is best at keeping heat from entering the intake. Think about it...

My point is the OP asked about installing a $50 filter. No one has given him any reason to choose one of the $300+ intakes they have recommended here. I say if you're on a tight budget and you are after more sound and a little more performance remove your stock airbox and slap on a cone filter. If you have a little more cash to throw around and want something flashier, then purchase X intake system. As for that drop-in K&N filter, atleast it's reusable. |
