I had long cranking starts in June and had the software updated. Lately I've had a rough idle on starting. I scheduled a service for next week and they said that there is the HPFP recall. Yesterday, I started the car and got the Engine Malfunction warning. What timing!

Now I have a spanking new HPFP and the car is no longer anaemic when it comes to acceleration.

Wooaaahh, Just got my 07 335i about 2 months ago. If i'm not experiencing any problems should i still take it in for the recall? is there a way to find out if my car already had this problem resolved?

Based on the posts as of late, this topic seems like a done deal. I mean every single N54 up to Oct. '09 was recalled. That's 2007, 2008, 2009, and some 2010's. Too bad it took ABC News to get it done. And when you think about it, BMWs image was not tarnished in the least bit--that's a strong brand!

Oh I think BMW has a black eye over the yet unresolved fuel pump failures. Car values have dropped and reliability ratings are lousy too.

That's why when you use stats, you have to make sure they're valid. Was my car unreliable? You bet, couldn't drive it for 6 mos. thanks to BMW. After a PUMA case? It's now been 20 mos. where it's been reliable. True, the overall avg. will never be positive, because it's like being a baseball player and striking out an entire season. But when you look at the car post-PUMA, seems nearly 100% reliable. It's always been a question of BMW's reluctance to fix anything. once you force them to, the car is as good as anybody else's.

With 2011 models still having HPFP issues, it certainly does not look as if BMW has resolved the fuel system issues yet.

This is weird. All this time, I was convinced it wasn't the HPFP themselves failing...but who knows...we'll see if the one I have holds out...

As far as value...KBB still shows mine worth over 30K. I know I couldn't sell it for that but still....

I read everything I could get my eyes on on the web and I could find nothing but the utmost praise for this car...so I'm not worried about it....

I guess just steer clear of lowballers on here when you're trying to sell it and you'll be good. I would be curious to see what BMW would offer for a trade on one....

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. BMW has replaced approx. 35,000 N54 HPFPs in the U.S. in the past year. If the problem was cured none of these vehicles should see a HPFP failure for 7-8 years based on typical 10K-15K annual mileage. There have been some reports of the recall pumps failing already from my local dealer.

A forum search will show that the 2011 models which are not covered by the recall are still experiencing HPFP failures so I'd say we need to wait 6 months or so and see what the reliability is of the newest pumps used in the recall.

Has anyone determined that a "new" fuel pump is being put in the cars rather than a reman or the same pump part numbers as before? If it is the same part as before then I would start wondering why does it seem to work better now than it did before? Was anything else done with the car when it had the pump replaced becaue if you put the same part #(or variant thereof) back in the car as the one you took out then it would stand to reason that the same thing should happen, unless something else was changed as well.
Anyone notice anything different about the driving characteristics of thier car after the work when compared to before? Changes in how the car accelerates, or runs at WOT, or how the turbos seem to kick in. Gas mileage changed?

I gotten my recall done earlier on this year. I used to hear misfires when at first gear after I pressed the accelerator and let it go abruptly. This is no longer there.

Mileage stayed about the same.

No issues with starting, cold or warm outside temperature.

Turbo is as usual, responsive and fast.

I don't think we know that the reman pumps are working any better. Didn't BMW replace like 1/3 of all pumps in 2007-2010 models in the past year? Those pumps aren't likely to fail immediately.

The bizarre thing about the fuel pumps failing is that they failed anytime. there are people who had the pumps fail on the way home from taking delivery of the car.
i am suspicious of the fact that there seem to be less failures even though the part is the same. That would lead me to beleive they are doing someting else to keep the pump from failing. can you say 29.2 ?

Sounds like a cover up, i work for a lot of dealers in the past and when there's problems like many have experience here for example same part number or reman parts and plenty of excuses.
No fuel pumps last forever, it seems that your all experiencing problems at wide open throttle to me sounds like fuel starvation (fuel cut) besides fuel pump getting weak. will be a number of things
fuel relay and DME (disrupts a signal to the pump)
TPS, MAP, MAF are load sensors if there are faults (it will not calculate or send proper signals to the DME to meter preset amounts of fuel to your engine.
Injectors, fuel lines, and DME can cause miss firing
injectors clogged or faulty (miss fire) not enough fuel delivery to the engine
fuel lines clogged will cause miss fire due to insufficient fuel supply
DME Not communicating sending or receiving proper signals will cause miss firing.
in my experience if your cars not having any problem don't bring it for the recall, leave it alone. you are one of the few lucky ones that do not have issues it might just stay that way and you will be the happiest guy.

you can call bmwna themselves and ask them. They keep record of that stuff. That is what I did. Before I bought mine a year ago I called and asked and they were able to tell me it was not done.

BMW admitted to turbo lag from new HPFP software

My 2007 335i Coupe definitely has more turbo lag since the HPFP was replaced earlier this year. Gas mileage seems about the same.

I just got a notice in the mail about the class action suit. It doesn't appear to help anyone except those who spent their own $ to fix HPFP and of course the lawyers.

Does anyone know more about the 2010 story at:
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/12/c...afe-causes-un/

I've copied part of the post below. What can I do to improve the turbo lag that I have had since the HPFP was replaced?

[It's worth noting that while BMW acknowledges problems with the N54's fuel pump and is offering affected owners an extended emissions warranty, the additional coverage does not appear to extend to other areas of the engine. In regards to the turbocharger, BMW spokesman Matthew Russell says that:

The turbo complaint is much less widespread and we have had a service bulletin in place since 2007 to address it. In an effort to address specific noise concerns, BMW updated the turbocharged engine software on 335i/xi and 535i/xi models built from June 2006 through March 2008. The updated software causes a small amount of increased "turbocharger lag" under certain circumstances and, while not substantial, the lag may be perceptible to the most sensitive BMW drivers. X6, 135i, and 3 Series/5 Series vehicles from March 2008 production onward are not affected."]
