the sensor is behind the plastic cover that covers the top of the engine. It's not visible. You're gonna have to reach into the back and feel around for it.

On my car, I was able to find it standing on the driver's side. If you lift the plastic cover up slightly, you'll gain more access underneath it. Feel around for the connector, which is large (like on the flex fuel wiring).

Do you recall what side the push tab is located? I believe I may have located the sensor but couldn't get it to budge. Its raining right now and will work on it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it's right on top. Take a look at the flex fuel sensor included with the new wire. It should be identical to that.

It might just be easier to remove the plastic cover. If you remove the passenger side strut bar it should come right off. I recently did this to unplug the o2 sensors when doing a DP install. Literally takes an extra 5 minutes. Just be sure you have an E18 torx to remove the strut bar, it's not common.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but wondering if anyone has any additional insight into finding the sensor on an E84 N55 engine. Have been looking/feeling around for about 45 minutes, but either I don't know what I am feeling for or just haven't been able to find it. Getting frustrated! Any help?

Thanks.

Wow, almost forgot about this thread. Randy, not sure how much of the engine bay is different from the e90, but I remember the way I found the sensor was by following the wire until it led me to the sensor. It's in a crevice where it won't be visible unless you lift the cover, but you can reach it from the drivers side. The push tab was facing the drivers side and I used my thumb to push the tab while yanking it out. The other comments helped me a bunch when I was doing this, hope this helps in some way and good luck to you!

Can you post a picture of your engine compartment? Trying
To see if it's the same as the E9X series.

Thanks. Hopefully this helps. Once I find the sensor, is there some give to allow me to pull it out? Or will I need to unplug and plug without being able to see it, just by feel?

Update...found the sensor, but am now having a hell of a time removing it with the tab. I am sure it is just a matter of time and continued playing with it, but man is this frustrating!

There's a delicate balance between yanking too hard on the wires and getting it off. I put my fingers on the tan and the back of my hand against the wires and pulled it off that way, basically using the wires coming out of the sensor to pull it off

Thanks. I am continuing to try. Question for you. Can the car be driven with the flex fuel wires attached to the JB4, but NOT attached to the car? So if I am ultimately not able to figure this soon, can I still drive the car or would I need to remove the jb4 in order to drive it?

You'll get the half engine light and no boost if you drive without the wires attached. Feel around the sensor and compare it to the jb4 connector for an idea of how to take it out. Practice with the jb4 connector push tab and get ur hand used to that awkward pulling motion. Gather yourself, take a deep breath, and try again. You can do it!!!

Here are some pictures I took during my install since I couldn't find any good ones. Notice that I remove the passenger strut bar and only moved the cover forward about two inches. I think it's impossible without doing this and it also makes installing the 2nd TMAP sensor easier.

Also to whoever is doing this in the future, the easiest way I got it was leaning forward from the center, squeezing the little shitty tab and pulling it out.

Getting it form the side is impossible for me. (removed rear cover/left strut)
