Roads BC to Alberta in April/May?

Hey guys,

I live on Vancouver Island and I've just switched over to my summer tires, Pirelli PZero runflats. I have to head out to Alberta at the end of April. Any of you guys live out that way that can speak to the road conditions over the mountains that time of year? I'm looking forward to taking the Fraser Canyon to the interior, I don't want to do it on snow tires if I can avoid it.

Cheers
Dan

I'm in edmonton. I've been through the moutains at the end of may and hit a vicious snowstorm near banff.

I would not risk it on winter tires. Check the forecast in advance.

Where in alberta?

Van to calgary is less risky than van to northern ab.

I'm heading to Calgary, I'm thinking about getting some snow-rated all seasons or going Seattle > Montana > Calgary and making a trip out of it.

We're up in double digits here in Calgary, I would bet money that the roads through the mountains would be fine with summer rubber by now! You'd be on dry road the entire way!

It's looking close! The weather through Rogers Pass is still a touch below freezing with flurries in the forecast, though.

OP just so you know most of us in Calgary will not switch to summers before may long weekend if you daily drive your car traveling through the mountains on summer set this time of the year is at least in my mind crazy, even if you take the Montana route

Hah, the roads were all good guys! I accidentally detoured up towards Jasper and the temps started to drop pretty rapidly, but overall it was a really nice road trip with no issues.

Word to the wise though, don't speed near Lake Louise, the highway patrol were vigorously nailing people left and right.
