Should I lower it?

I have a stock 08 335xi w/ 19" CSL's on the way. Do most people lower their cars or leave the stock suspension in place? If I were to lower it, any suggestions on what to buy and how to do it?

Lower it with H&R sports springs.

Is this something I can install myself with a little instruction? How much will these lower it?

If you lower it with H&R be prepared for premature wear on you stock shocks. If you lower your car, ideally you also replace the shocks or go with coilovers. You need to maintain certain geometries in the suspension to get any added benefit performance wise when lowering a car so do not slam it. Otherwise it is just for looks.

H&R makes a street coilover kit (not sure for XI yet), that reatails around $1200 which is very reasonable for a coilover. It is also designed so the springs and shocks are complimentary. Just adding the springs will certainly make your car look better, but ride quality and longevity of the shocks will be compromised.

I was just reading the same thing on the other threads. I'll probably hold off on the springs for now. Anyone have pics of how my ride will look with these rims with standard springs/shocks? Hopefully it will still look cool...!?

it will look lowered, but you will wear out your shocks. Just get coilovers. Cheap people pay twice.

Pardon my ignorance and lack of technical knowledge, but what are coilovers and what will they do to my car?

Their tech center is very good at explaining various wheel/tire/suspension topics.
