All the cars dropped at NY came from Germany with the right software. The Charleston cars had the wrong software. It will take 10 days to load the software on a computer in New York, load it on a vessel, and sail it down to Charleston.

You track that progress here ...

just called my dealer, my car is still at port, they have some software issue, and they will not release cars until the problem is solved. He has had a car at port for 14 days now, so he really has no idea when the issue will be solved. F**k this!!

Can anyone else with cars at VPC in Charleston confirm or deny the hold up ????? Come new car owners, start calling your sales people. If true I hate this waiting. I went by the Mercedez Benz dealership the other day and it was full of MB waiting for owners. BMW dealerships have about 80% less cars in their lots. What is BMW thinking about?

Talked to my dealer today and he informed me that it won't be done until 3/28.

But I still have to wait until April 20th for PCD, so I'm not .

No I am not serious I was joking . If this is true it must be for all cars no matter Charleston, NY or Timbuktu.

Why 10 days for software is curious though . You would assume the bug patch or upgrade has already been developed. If not why hold cars. It'll probably need to be applied to existing cars too. In today's world automobile software can be sent thru intranets and the internet in minutes. Heck even regional service people carry latest releases, patches and beta around on laptops.

It seems to me a physical part must be involved. Or maybe they sold your car to someone else for whatever unscrupulous reason, and are giving you BS until your replacement comes.

Just throwing this out there, but wasn't a new CIP just released? And this batch of vehicles could've come out of the factory with the old CIP and the new software was released during shipping, so after the cars get to stateside Q&A the software gets updated. The 10 days must just be a safety time span in order to update all the cars, seeing how it takes technicians several hours for each.

and if that is the case, wouldnt the NY cars be affected too? the Integrity, which arrived in NY on Monday...some guys on this board are picking up their cars today, and some tomorrow...surely those cars would need to be updated as well? considering the integrity just left Germany on the 6th of this month.

Yes, he already stated he was joking about that. The delay affects both NY and SC delivered cars from the Ingolstadt shipment.

Well if the guys are already picking up their cars then the must have not had the same delay. Just dumb luck that our cars got held up b/c of software issues and there's did not. Also, it may not be affecting all the cars just a few, but to be safe they're delaying the whole lot. Just be patient, you're almost there.

It is so true, I talked to my special contact in Munich and she is a trustworthy reliable source. In fact she Brings Me Whatever I want.

The correct spelling is "Friggin" software.

This experience with BMW is turning out to be too much of a hassle. First, if you want a car in a particular way, you have to basically have it built. Dealers have almost no cars available at their locations that can be sold, compared to Mercedez Benz, their lot is full of brand new cars with many options to choose from.
I keep on hearing about experiences with racism ( race and color ) on the part of sales people and troubles with misinformed service departments with regards to software updates ( i.e.: mp3 playback) .
Now, the factory screwed up and are delaying delivery because of that.
Wouldn't it be nice for BMW to realize that people who want a BMW car will go into their dealerships and just get one, fully loaded or not. It just seems like their trying to save every penny(a la Walmart).
I ordered the car on the Feb 20th and I am still waiting it. Now it turns out I have to add more days because of the mistake at the factory! Maybe they should give all the affected *new owners* some freebies to ammed for the delay in delivery. A 760i loaner would work!

My neighbor ordered a brand new MB 240 with options and got it in 2 and half weeks.

Don't know if my dealer is wrong or not, but my new baby was on the Ingolstadt and was loaded on the truck today. Should be at my dealer next Tuesday or Wednesday.

So today is March 24th you are barely over 4 weeks. You're doing very good IMO. You obviously had or were given too high expectations on the expected timeline for a custom ordered BMW manufactured in Germany and shipped to the states. If MB can make a car in Germany and ship it to the states and deliver it to the customer in 2.5 weeks no wonder it's getting the lowest grade on customer reliabilty.
