I'm on the fence between the Continental ExtremeContact DWS and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires. I have a 2007 335i sports suspension with staggered 162 wheels. I do not have plans on taking my car to the track but it is my daily spirited driver. I also make a few trips to the slopes every season. What are yall's thoughts?

I was going to try out the new Michelin A/S 3 but a couple of members complained about the noise.

I don't have personal experience with any of the tires you mention but someone that I trust speaks very highly of the DWS. I don't know if he's tried the Goodyears though.

Well it's not redundant as they each serve different purposes.
Few reasons:
1. All-seasons = longer treadwear for wet/dry daily driving
2. I don't believe in sticky/expensive summer tires unless you track your car. 99% of people don't utilize summer performance tires anywhere near their potential - myself included.
3. I used to live in NH and drive to work in a foot+ of snow (they're not a bunch of P's like DMVers and work doesn't close for snow)
4. I still take frequent ski trips to the mountains
5. Winter tires significantly outperform A/S in winter

Yes if you have a tire shop and they don't make it in the actual size you do what you have to to get what you want out of a stock 19 rim not to mention it corrected bmws off speedo and filled the fender need to get a photo posted it looks a lot better then BMW stock 30 sidewall in rear

Or that I wanted all season tires for my stock bmw 19's and the only way to get that is to increase sidewall from 30 to 35 which also would allow me to run winter tires with that size instead of the 4 tire options that normally come for the wheel size.

How is the road/tire noise? Also, have you tried any other all season tires before and how does it compare to the Michelin A/S 3?

I didn't want to go thru the hassle if the road noise was pretty bad and I kinda like the excellent snow performance of the dws and eagle f1. No one really has tested the A/S 3 in the snow and ice yet but according to tire rack the dry/wet performance is on par with summers tires!

I run Conti DWS for my winters, in the stock 255/35R18 and 225/40R18 sizes. The sidewall is pretty smushy, but other than that I really like them. They performed well in slush and cold/wet weather. Not great for actual packed snow, but by that time this area is shut down anyway...

Have you found your 335i is any good at all in the snow? I haven't, even with all season tires. If you have found some that are quite good in snow up to four inches, please do tell.

Perhaps I haven't not such great success with all seasons because there're a lot of inclines (I wouldn't call them hills, per se and stop signs in my neighborhood. I just gave up and go for full on winter tires, and chains, if necessary -- it was for our last big snow storm when I got caught without access to my SUV.

I agree with your basic point about not really needing summer performance tires, and I'd prefer to just go with all seasons, if only to free up space in the garage.

Last winter I survived on half worn Ventus v12s (exteme perf summer), maybe not the smartest but for the 3 snow days we had I was fine. Any more snow than we had that last snow day and I doubt a rwd 35i is going anywhere. FWIW, not only did I survive the winter in those half worn Hankooks, I cut a 1.9 60' at the track the following spring. Thats what I call heavy tire usage.

I think you will probably be happier with the DWS I went from my re050a rft to pilot a/s 3 so the road noise is minimal but I think if you are going to from a softer tire that is less performance oriented to a Michelin PSS or A/S3 you will notice a harsher and somewhat noisier ride but its not going to be that noticeable unless you are driving the DWS and the A/S3 back to back.

Michelin is one of the best tires for ride satisfaction 30 days if you don't like them bring them back to were you bought them they don't grill you as to why. Not to mention they are best for honoring any of the warranty defects and mileage on tires.

Have to run across town in a few mins ill make a quick video so you can hear the noise on smooth, milled up asphalt, and chopped concrete interstate and you can decide for yourself will have link posted around 11 or 12.

Also make sure the people saying the ride is noisy and harsh they have correct tire pressure and not still running the door sticker pressure (run flats)36 F 41 R


Soon as you take the run flats off you should be running 33 F 35 R for optimal wear and traction.

Great! Maybe you can change my mind and go for the more performance oriented all season tire! It is $120 difference from DWS but is it worth the extra $$$?

I had the DWS on a 4matic W211. I can't say much about driving on snow but I can say in a horrid downpour the car cut through standing water like a hot knife through butter. It just remained planted even at high speeds. I was quite impressed. As mentioned, the DWS does feel a bit mushy (you can feel it in turn in's). The feeling you get is similar to how a performance winter tires feels (I also had Dunlop WS 3D's on another set). I'm actually trying out the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics on my E85 and so far I am pleased. The price point on these tires are really attractive and so far I am happy with the feel of these tires, the ride comfort, grip and aesthetics. Again, no experience in snow yet but I'd expect these tires to do well, so far they've gathered positive reviews). Comparing the GYs to the DWS's, I'd say the GY's feels less mushy. Hope that helps.

I use Bridgestone Blizzak in the winters. Definitely a lot lost in performance, but I can actually get around in the snow.
