Rear tire tread

So I just swapped my wheels for the winter and noticed that my rear tires are already almost bald in the inside, I only put about 10k miles on them. The tires are Hankook Ventus. Is this normal with bmw's? Because I do know that they have a specific stance for performance which would probably cause this.

Did you lower the car???

More than 25mm or 1" can cause too much negative camber, most RWD's will have 1-2 degrees from the factory as the top of the wheel twists slightly outwards when rotating as the bottom is planted on the ground thus evening out camber, if your cars dropped too much its constantly in negative camber leaving more weight on the inside edge of the tyre, ya get me??

Worn middle means cupped tires, right?

Over inflation, bad alignment, blown suspension all could be the culprit.

Inside tread wear normally means one of the following.

- Underinflation
- Too much negative camber
- Too much toe

Negative camber will give you the odd wear shape (inner wear more than outer wear).
Toe will accelerate the wear on the tire.

Adjusting the suspension always requires an alignment.

Thanks guys, I did just recently install the H&R's and never got an alignment which is probably what's causing the problem. I'll have to do that asap.

Definitely the problem. I would get an alignement asap. Your toe and camber are most likely well off OE specs.

I will keep posted. Do you guys prefer an alignment done by BMW? Because they are pretty darn expensive.

Any reputable alignement shops will be able to align your car for a lower cost.

I would recommend you the alignment checked by someone with a KDS or Hunter rig, car is aligned with weights to get the wheel arch a specific height from the ramp before being re-aligned to factory settings, it costs alot but believe me its worth it, had it done on my old e46 330d after getting suspension done, made it feel like a new car from the factory!! Not sayin this is the only way but it stopped my car wandering at high speeds where other alignment centres failed. Basically you just want the job done right.

I'll look into that. Do I just ask if they have the rig? How much would I be looking at for this type of alignment?

Chances are its what the bmw garage might have if they are a large dealership, here in Ireland it would cost over 200 euros. A good BMW specialist or track day specialist Might have the equipment. It's the extreme option but it is def worth it
