Hahaha! I was beginning to wonder if anyone else noticed that! I'd pay a ton more for a good topless car wash!

I use the touchless car wash, but only get the cheapest wash where they are not dumping any of their wax on my car. I just think of it as a power rinse for when I am too lazy to wash and wax my car.

Touchless in the winter and every so often I'll use my ONR in the garage afterwards.

I just ran mine through the shell touchless. It worked alright, it got my car fairly clean but it's far from a good looking Monaco blue. It didn't do a great job drying so there are plenty of stains on it. I went for the rainx wash but I think its a gimmick, it didnt feel any different. Went home and applied rainx myself. next time I'm going for the cheaper mid grade option.
For what it is the touch less washes are good enough. I don't see how they would damage your paint if you go a few times a year. Edit: I would never let any woman, topless or not, wash my car! Now those washes will rape your clear coat.

"Cloth automatic car washes are preferable..."
BMW video says "Cloth car washes are preferable", and that "high pressure car washes" are not. Touchless are usually high pressure. In this case, I follow BMW's advice. I've washed my car several times in cloth automatic car washes and they are fine for me.

I will NEVER take any of my car's through a brush wash...all of the other crap that comes off of thousands of neglected American cars is still stuck in there, how often do you think they change those out? Not only that but the speed at which some of them spin...just asking for scratches.

Not spinning brushes car washes. Soft cloth washes, which just gently swing back and forth. Changed out frequently. Used 'em for years; no problems. But to each his own. :-)

+1. The biggest issue comes from when the guys dry off my car using cotton towels. But again, nothing I can't fix with my PC and a polish. |

I would never use a brush either auto or manual at a carwash. I have 3 cars in my household and have my own sponge for my car I will use anything for the wifes and sons.
p.s. Their dont know how to turn the hose on or fill a bucket.lol but true |

If you live in the north of the continent, you're going to deal with a ton of salt and grit on the roads, as does everyone else. That salt is the lowest grade you can imagine and it coats the car wash cloth strips (along with rust and other crap from cars and trucks that pass through the wash before you). A touchless car wash is not going to get rid of the thin coating of dirt and so you car still looks dirty - but a couple of hours on a wet road will get you back to that state no matter what. Passing your car through a touchless or DIY wand wash every couple of weeks will get the accumulated salt and grime off and do little if any damage. Beats the work of having to PC down your swirls in the Spring - although some people do get a kick out of that
Some people don't seem to care/notice swirls. Some people don't care what they drive. Each to his/her own. |

I just used one today on my E93 convertible.
Not a single drop of water entered the cabin and I'd give the overall wash a 7/10. I attempted to dry water spots with my chamois after and it got pretty dirty in the process. The car was pretty dirty before it went in so I'm not surprised at the results. |

fuck touchless car washes. recycled water and shitty wax they use is never good, thats down here in florida though, that stuff is better in the colder climates where you get salt build up but then again, id just wait til i could hand wash

So for you guys that wash your cars by hand, how do you guys wash the undercarriage? The road salt corrodes the hell out of the exhaust system if not regularly removed.
