Any Experience with Megan Racing Axle-Back System for 328?
I've been looking for a replacement for a damaged PE muffler (not gonna pay for an entire new PE system just because no one will sell the muffler seperately)
I keep coming across the Megan Racing Axle Back Systems - they are made from T304SS and appear to have quality welds + at an asking price range of $400-$500 shipped, it is an attractive option. Has anyone installed one of these on a 328, and if so, what are your impressions and sound clips? Before you all get jumpin ugly about these being 'cheap chinese crap'
If it's good enough for an M3 - it's certainly good enough for a 328 I see WheelAddicts carry them for the M3's, E92-Lighting has one version for 328

Well, from the sound clips I heard of the M3 system it didn't sound bad at all.
But it's definitely not the same sound between the V8 and the 6 (which I never thought it would). On the M3 it has a low tone at idle and lower RPM's - then switches over to a more Euro high pitch at upper RPM's. By that clip it doesn't sound any different at idle than stock and is all high pitch after that... All of the M3 clips were with cat delete & hi flow X-pipes which may also make a difference if the above clip is with cats and res

Do you guys know any good mufflers for a 328 that are on the cheap side. I know the PE is the best but it's to expensive for me. Can you guys recommend me anything?

Well, I like the MagnaFlow setup - but it also includes a new set of midpipes WITH a resonator.
You can get them for around $600 from some of the eBay vendors that sell them and have 'Make Offer' in their auctions. You can also just go with a MagnaFlow muffler ONLY for between $100 & $200 - but that entails getting a muffler shop involved and their labor cost also. Lot of info on the MF if you do a 'Search' There's also the new muffler delete setup with the drone eliminator from ActiveAutowerks - going for $499 shipped during their pre-buy only (which is gonna end very soon) I'm sooo tempted just to go with that, but everything about a muffler delete is generally against my way of doing things...

We need to find some Take Off & Drive By clips
Doesn't matter how inexpensive it is if the sound is no different than stock

That's what I was wondering - how it would sound with no resonator? Hopefully that sound clip is stock system with only muffler change, because I can't believe it sounds that lame compared to the M3 clips.
I emailed MeganRacing to see if they had any sound clips of the 328 system with res delete or secondary cat+res delete...

it will sound pretty stock with the factory resonator still in place, it looks lighter though..just picked up a 2006 330i..going with a customer magnaflow set up, doing secondary cat delete, replace heavy resonator with a magnaflow 4in round resonator and using a 5x8 muffler, all for about $400 installed..weight saving around 50 pounds

I got a reply back from Megan Racing - they have NO sound clips whatsoever. Guess you just have to 'poke and hope' with their product
At any rate, I went with RE IKON & PE res delete midpipes. It has exactly the sound I was looking for...

Bought the IKON off a member here - with real low miles, and in 'as new' condition

I contacted both Megan and E-92 lighting, a reseller last week.
Neither has bothered to responded to date. But this seems to be the way of "the new world". So I went with AA for an exhaust, and a tune. And they do answer the phone and return emails. |

Its been a year since you had your AA muffler and im curious what your experience has been? I heard there were alot of drone issues, im in the market again for an exhaust and am considering the AA or Ikon. Not looking for something too loud and def least drone as possible also thinking about leaving my cat on as well.

FWIW, mine was installed at AA, and during the test drive even AA said it droned badly. Tried repositioning, clamping differently, cork trick, nothing changed. I finally took it off after a few months, sold it and found an MMW V2, and couldn't be happier. Zero drone, nice sound. My resonators and cats are and were still in place. |
