Hoping it's the Water Pump

Hopefully it is the water pump. Last night at 71,000 miles. No warning at all. Driving down the highway, Yellow light lit up then immediately after that the Red lit up. Pulled over as soon as possible and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Popped the hood found coolant everywhere in the engine bay and the fan was spinning uncontrollably fast. Turned it back on drove it about 1/8 of a mile and the Yellow light lit back up again. I pulled over, shut the car off and got it towed home. Still waiting to get it to the shop to figure out what is going on. Any suggestions?

It's the pump. No doubt about it. A scan with a BMW scan tool should bring up 2E81 and 2E82. find those and you'll be sure.

Thanks everyone. I'm calling the shop tomorrow to see when I can get it in and hopefully it is covered under warranty.

Be careful and make sure that the pump failure didn't blow the whole system. My pump fail shorted the whole system and caused the DME to melt and melted the engine harness as well.

+1 for the pump, had the exact same thing. It's a pretty common problem near 100k miles, surprising that yours is so low. Good luck!
