My recommendation ( although I think it's been suggested before) Is to swap the pins in existing OBD , then make your own patch cable which corrects the pin layout. This way you make your own configuration that nobody knows. You give the patch cable to whoever needs to work on your car.
As the OBD port is rarely used , you can safely store it elsewhere.
Configure it in such a way that any scroat who plugs it in without the patch cable gets 5 or 12v down the wrong channel on pop goes his equipment.
Cost of this extra security about 10 quid and a little bit of time and crucially you get to get your own back ..

Other methods such as putting a kill switch on one of the OBD lines or placing a blank in place of the original are all going to be just as effective. These scumbags are interested in a 30 sec deal if you can somehow put them off for even 30 seconds more I reckon you have greatly improved your chances of keeping your car.

Guys, look at this cable, it's x4 the price of similar cables from China!

Do you think it's a rip-off and are you buying the chinese version?

I went with this one, 10m length is no doubt more than i need, but i can now run it anywhere in the car without worrying is it long enough

Well Anthony from SecureMyCar has just left.... All i can say is he has done a top job, really impressed with the Viper alarm install. As well as being a top bloke, he knows his stuff so if your thinking of upgrading your security then he is definitely worth a call IMO. I will definitely be a returning customer.

By the way, while he is at it he can also secure your OBD port. I wont say anymore as this is a public forum but i am one happy customer

Guys, best bet is to give him a call, your looking cira £500 for a top install with every aspect of security covered.

At the end of the day, it would cost you more in excess, increased future premiums and the inconvenience.

not a bad idea though I'm hoping with budget being tight a relocated OBD is enought. Ive tested cable and all conenctions work and I can still use my diag kit on it so now just to get a dry day and remove the interior to relocate it. Something for next weekend hopefully
