Rolling Diameter Question
Hi, I had a quick question. I've been looking into getting a new set of wheels. I have a 07 328xi and from what I have been reading if I want to run a staggered set up I have to make sure the rolling diameter is less than 1%. Now if I have a set of 18s and I run 225/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear I know ill be okay, but MY QUESTION is if I have 18s can I run 235/40/18s all around or would my rear tires sidewall have to be less. What are my options? thanks a lot

Correct. It's recommended that tyre diameter is under 1% for Xi.
Yes you can use 235/40/18 all round. It would be the best setup for xi, since there is no difference in diameter. Are wheels going to have same width at front and rear? If your rear wheel is wider, might consider going with wider rear tyre.

From the info I've read here from other members and even wheel/tire vendors, the slight height difference on a tire mounted on an 8" wheel vs and 8.5" wheel is minimal and not enough to offset the rolling diameter enough to cause an issue with the awd drivetrain.
Lots of XI owners run square tires on their OEM staggered wheels for winter.

Running a 235/40/18 on all four wheels should be fine since the wheels are only 18x8 and 18x8.5 Both of those are within recommended specs for that tire, and won't cause any strain on your drivetrain.
