The Two Week Update

Well, I've now had the new (to me) 335i for a touch over two weeks, have to say, I'm still wildly in love with this car. I came from a 2008 A4 (some pictures in my intro thread here) and I'm not missing that car much at all these days. There are a couple things here and there that the Audi does better but taken as a whole, the 335i is certainly the better car, IMO. Now that I've had some seat time to get familiar, I think I can pretty fairly give my likes and dislikes.

Likes:
- The N54 (Powerband, smoothness, fuel efficiency, everything)
- Suspension is beautifully dialed in, yet still very comfortable
- RWD. I don't see much snow where I live now so the benefits far out weigh the drawbacks when compared to AWD... lots more fun
- Sport seats are perfectly bolstered and very comfortable
- Buttons, pockets, storage space, etc... all seem to be in exactly the right place, someone clearly thought this car through
- Great looking exterior on the E92 and I'm very happy w/ the colour I chose, a breeze to maintain
- Tons of rear seat space, 2 adults can actually fit back there comfortably
- Golf clubs can fit horizontally in the trunk

Dislikes:
- Mediocre materials on the touchable surfaces
- Terrible iPod connectivity (am I missing something or can you really not change the song through the car?)
- Windshield wipers (were rain sensors an option? I push in the end of the stalk for "automatic wipers" and it does next to nothing, I assume I don't have the correct equipment)

I've also had time for a few small mods in these couple weeks so here's what I've done so far:

Colour matched sidemarkers and bumperplugs to fill the holes of the front plate of the PO.

40% Solargard Supreme (wanted 3M crystalline but it was back ordered). The heat rejection on the Solargard doesn't even come close to the Huper Optik I had on the last car but it'll do for a while.

Debadged and a new license plate frame out back.

BMW performance shifter, boot, and e-brake.

Upcoming mods will probably include a custom m-tech steering wheel, m-sport front bumper, a new set of OEM wheels, and a tune when I finally get bored of the stock power. As it stands now I think I've knocked out all the little mods I want to (unless you guys have some other suggestions) so it'll soon be time to tackle these bigger mods. We'll see how it goes .

Anyways, I know I kind of drew this thread out so thanks for looking guys. Any comments, criticisms, or questions are more than welcome.

Looks great. I honestly think the coupe's look best minimally modded.

Looks great! What plans for the steering wheel? Part alcantara I sense? (thinking of this myself)

Looks great. A few comments on your notes:
2008 may have the USB/iPod connectivity as an option. If you have the USB and headphone jack in the console, you have it. You need a black Y cable for connectivity. If iDrive it should show Aux devices and your iPod. If not, it's still selectable thru the radio and should show playlists and songlists for selecting, skipping them.

For rain sensing wipers, press the end button once for a quick wipe and to activate. Use the wheel just next to the end to adjust sensitivity. I always do full up.

I agree, I'm very much into the OEM+ style of modding.

Some sort of take on the m-sport wheel. Right now I'm thinking a little extra padding with blue/white/blue stitching. I don't like the chrome on the stock steering wheel trim and I don't want to put any m-badges on my car, so I'm thinking I'll wrap that centre cover in matte black vinyl. Thinking of adding some alcantara to the mix.

I do have the "aux in" jack in the console and a Y cable (could I have the wrong one?), no iDrive though. I hit the "Audio" button and have the three options of "Tuner", "CD", and "Aux" (or something similar), I don't have an option for "iPod". I obviously choose the "Aux" and it can play the iPod and adjust the volume, but it can't charge it or change songs. Frustrating.

As per wipers, that's what I've been doing, I find even with the knob full up, I can hardly see out the window by the time it decides to wipe. Maybe my sensor is dirty or faulty or something like that (or non-existant), where would it be located? If I don't have one is there a way to change the time interval of when it wipes?

Thanks for taking a run at those questions for me BTW Richard.

The paint is very clean, it looks like the PO was as meticulous as I am (my good camera and photoshop also help the cause ). I'll be getting a full professional detail this fall as well.

I actually have gloss black grilles and shadowline sitting in my garage, I'm just undecided on whether or not I want to use them. Right now I'm kind of liking the grey/silver theme, if I get bored I think I'll add some black to the mix.

Nice! I think it looks awesome as is!!

I like Audi's sport packages cuz they are right on point - especially the titanium package you had.

Some more wiper info:

Automatic wipers are actually manually activated when rain first falls (first notch up on the right stalk). The "automatic" part comes in where the car varies the wiping speed depending on rain intensity. You can adjust the sensitivity using the sub-knob on the front of the right stalk.

If you leave it at this setting and rain stops while you're driving, the wiper stops wiping. If rain resumes, it resumes wiping on its own and you don't need to adjust anything. That's the second "automatic" part about it.

When you switch off the car though, everything is disabled and you do it all over again when you next encounter rain. Seems tedious at first, but is really easy to deal with when you get to know the car. I remember that this is how it also worked with the B7?

For whatever reason, the auto wipers all of the sudden worked perfect today. Still haven't figured out that iPod yet though.

Wrapped my steering wheel trim in matte black vinyl today though. Couldn't stand the two chrome strips so I thought this would be the best way to get rid of them.
