Catless Downpipe Emissions HELP!!!!

Hey guys, I'm looking at a modded 335i for sale that has a catless downpipe. I live in Wisconsin, and I'm guessing this will cause me to fail emissions, is that correct? Does anyone have experience doing this on their 335i or know someone that has?

Or does anyone have a connection in Wisconsin that can give it a check for some nice new crispy green paper?

Easiest way would be when you register it to say that you are keeping it in a country that doesn't have emissions and that is were it will be used. You don't need an address there just say that is were you will be using/storing it but to send the paperwork to the address on your license.

Or just make sure you don't have a check engine light and you should be good to go. They dont run the car on runners anymore from what I have seen.

I'd tell them that it's a non-emissions county, not a country, that might lead to extra questions.

Hahaha thanks, from what I read on the DMV site, once it is registered in a new state, you have to pass emissions regardless of what county. However I might have misinterpreted that...

Well, as europartconnect said, as long as your check engine light isn't on then you should still pass.

Really, is that how it is now? It's been about 2 years since I have done emissions, so I haven't been since they started having independent shops do it. That would be nice!

I'm not sure, last time I went was like 2.5 years ago, I had my bro take my car in like 6 months ago. Last time I went they plugged it up to some thing and turned on the car.

Damn Milwaukee sucks! LOL! Thank goodness I don't live there! No emissions testing in Dane County FTW!!!

Also, if they put something on your tailpipes (the "sniffer" test) you WILL FAIL emissions no doubt! If they plug something into your OBD port inside the car just to the left of your left leg by the door sill, as long as you're running a DPFix or tune that doesn't trigger a CEL/code for being kitty less you are golden.

Well guys, I purchased the car, and today I finally got in for emissions. I know you guys all lost a ton of sleep over this. Somehow I PASSED!!! No Cat, it ready as "Not Ready", but I still passed. I'll take it!

I had it done at a Kia dealer, and guy mentioned that the car was really stinky. Whoops!

Catless makes the exhaust fume smell real bad? Do you use a Cobb or JB?

I'm wanting my next mods to be performace mods like a DP or aftermarket FMIC but i'm trying to find something that won't give me added noise/smell. I've also read that a catted DP isn't worth the money vs gains.

Doesn't matter what tune you have, catless is catless. There will be fumes. Not that noticable when driving, but at stoplights, parking decks, it's there. And your bumper will get really, really dirty. There is also a decent amount of added noise. Catted DP isn't that far off from catless in terms of gains, but it is slightly less and it is a lot more money.

I had catless AR's, but took them off because of emissions, noise, and smell. I'm looking to get catted ones now to see how they are.

Personally I would not have spent the money, but it was already on there when I purchased, so I just had to roll with the punches. However I'm not going to drop a few hundred to a grand to buy a stock part and put it back now that it passed! Personally I don't mind the smell, but some people do.

Yeah I do notice the bumper getting dirty quickly, luckily the guy added a clear "bra" (I don't know what you would call it for the back haha).

It has a Cobb tune, I have further read since I passed, that Wisconsin allows one "not ready". Make sure that your state allows that also, or it will be pointless.

Does the report say which item was "not ready"?

Probably catalytic convertor readiness. Without cats, that will either not be ready or trip the code as soon as it's ready. EVAP code takes a long time to achieve readiness as well. It's the last thing to set I believe. When I had the catless DP's, I couldn't get the BMS DPFix adjusted right and all the driving cycles for testing made me realize how loud the car was so I just went back to OEM downpipes. Even after installing OEM, I never got the EVAP ready but they passed it since 1 not readiness is allowed.
