Driving the wrong way down a motorway
How is it possible that someone doing this could escape a driving ban:

If you know he M74 there are often parallel roads to the motorway so it's not uncommon to see lights coming at you, but luckily i hit the brakes and slowed down as i wasn't sure. Dread to think what a head on would look like I called the police -turns out it was a rental car. So they couldn't trace the owner Where are the Cumbria traffic cops when you need them! |

How could she think continuing to travel down the fast lane was the best solution?? Unbelievable.

It's obvious that she wasn't going more than 70mph, that's why.
If she had've been speeding, she would've got a ban for sure. Speed Kills, you see. Wrong way down a motorway isn't that dangerous, as long as you're not speeding, you see. Well, that's what the Department for Transport would have us think, anyway.

An ex colleague of mine was banned for three months for doing 101 mph on that stretch of A74. He had a clean licence and needed it to keep his job. How is driving for 16 miles the wrong way down a carriageway 'safer' than speeding in the right direction !!!! No consistency to the penalties in this country.

Baffles me how such incompetence escapes a ban ffs. Even taking into account the media choosing to only publish certain facts, still beggars belief a ban was not imposed!
An old guy did this on the M62 the other year (luckily not around the Leeds section!!) and had his licence taken away thankfully. Apparently other motorists were flashing him and trying to make him stop and he just drove merrily on. |
