They were properly adjusted because I remember how happy I was when I drove my car home.
It sounded exactly like it sounds today.

Just for a change.
I actually have 2 X pipes in my system.

I have one X pipe in the middle and then my Borla Muffler is pretty much a resonated X pipe.
I think that I'm going to replace my X pipe with 2 straight through resonators just to increase the flow a bit.

I'm so happy for you!!
Seriously guys, this is no joke and it works well.
I'm sure that my 2.5 turns was a little too much but I just wanted to make sure that it didn't come back.

I'm extremely happy with mine as well.

I just don't understand why BMW doesn't come up with this fix! It seems like a easy solution

Mine took 2 turns, but I still have a slight noise/flutter from the front one. I need to see if I can get up in there with the micro wrenches I have, but I can live with a little flutter. It was that rattle that was really bad. Even the guys at my dealership were amazed and they know I have had the rattle for some time now.

It sounds like you have more going on than wastegate rattles.
Remember in the previous post I was talking about how the front wastegate isn't an issues since the wastegate doesn't shut under idle and deceleration?
This is why the front wastegate doesn't need to be adjusted.

Yes, if you have the 29.2 plus software, then your wastegates are supposed to be open at idle and deceleration.
You should not adjust them to be shut at idle. This would be bad!
If you are still getting the rattle if you have this program then you should take it in to the dealer.
You already have the newer program so it's not like your situation is going to get any worse.

Hey so what do I tell my tech to do again? That rattle sounds like crap. It does that on my car at idle after I rev up. It makes a rattle on the let off. If this works you get super props for this one !

If you are talking about your BMW tech then you don't tell your tech to do anything.
The BMW tech is NOT going to adjust these actuators because they will not get paid to do such a thing.
I already explained their process.
They will update your software first and then change out the actuators.

This procedure is for you or another independent mechanic.
If you are talking about an independent mechanic then print out the first post and give it to them to read. They should understand what to do after.

You think I should give the rear another turn? I can do it 15 Minutes now. I only hear the flutter when in a garage.

you can try, but tightening TOO much can be more harm than help.

1 turn shouldn't hurt at all.
Just make sure that there is still a lot of movement in the linkage.
In other words, make sure that the wastegates are opening enough to let the exhaust pass the turbo.

this is what i suggested a long time ago...since the fix by bmw is to replace the wastegates..which eventually loosen up and need the same thing fixed...and even when replacing the wastegates the fix is to adjust them to the same length as the one that came out..which will still give you a misadjusted wastegate. kinda funny..but what can ya do? as for the adjusting...the reason bmw doesnt just have us do that is because is a very touchy thing to adjust..if missadjusted you can really screw things up.

thats true, but BMW's fix should be the same as this fix... because lets say in the future, when our warranty's expire and maybe there's a new owner to the car, and the ticking begins, he/she has to shell out $3000+ for something that the service department should charge 1 hr. of labor for (plus the time to cool down, but that shouldn't be factored in!)!

Since it sounds like you know then can you give the tolerances on the adjustment procedure with the newer actuators?
To me, a "missadjustment" would be if the wastegate never opened, and one would have to tighten the crap out of the rod for this to happen.

So why cant we just adjust it so there is no lag? would it be bad if the ehaust was always flowing through the turbo? what would be the outcome?

unless you understand exactly what you are doing and have an idea of how a turbo works and what the effect is of you adjusting the wastgate, do NOT go out and try this at home. read Mr.5 opening post please, everyone.

at the end of the day, if you dont mind, go to the dealer.

This is so true!
I'll even update the titles to comment a bit further.

You guys really need to understand how a turbo works in order to do this.
Wastegates are there for a reason.
The statement down below is just like saying...
"Would it be bad if I just eliminated the fuse box and just replaced all of the fuses with wires? This way, there would be no fuses to blow."
