Hoping you lads can help. Mates M5 [ 62 plate ] has usb in the centre console and the glove box but ,neither will read a usb stick with mp3's on.

Is there something that needs activating in idrive?

Not normally no. Check the files are the correct type and that the USB stick isn't locked?

The files are mp3 and there is no encryption on the sticks. Has me puzzled.

I have had this problem and found it was the USB stick itself. Chances are he's tried another one but if not tell him to do so. Is he using a Mac to format the USB? I always use Windows for mine as I'm not sure if it would work from my Mac, suppose I should try it (whether or not it makes any difference or not I have no clue).

Also open the USB files on Windows and select 'show hidden files and folders', delete the hidden ones as the CIC picks these up if not deleted and will try and play them which may cause it to fail.

Try a different usb stick I now have a sandisk 16gb small black and red one from staples (called cruzer or blade) but 3 I tried before never worked, Kingston 2gb, Kingston 64gb and a small one.

The slot in the glovebox is for copying to the hard drive so try to copy the files over from I drive, cd, ext. drives, options, copy music (if I remember right)

Just had a look through the idrive menu and it suggests using FAT32. I think I formatted the sticks using NTFS .

Googled it , stick does not show up at all which I assume is because it is formatted in NTFS.

I think you have to select the file then select 'copy to music collection'. I've only tried it with a CD in mine so not 100% sure how to do it from USB

Formatted stick at work after copying files across to desktop, them remembered our IT permissions does not allow us to write to a usb DOH!!!!

So now have files on desktop and cant get back onto stick FML
