Brakes Due !! Need Advice

Whatsup guys,

Well my brakes have been do for awhile and i have tried to push it from taking it in during the season due to the lack of money, but now that the season is over i can afford to get my brakes done, however im undecided if should stick with OEM brakes or upgrade them to aftermarket setup. Im a daily driver and im not planning on stepping anywhere near the track, so i wanted to hear your thoughts on what i should do... Also if you can recommended an aftermarket setup that would be great. Ive heard great stuff about HPS pads, but i havent really heard much about rotors.

u can do oem rotors and coolcarbon pads.

Search for reviews about cool carbon pads; they're quite a few unfavorable reviews. OE is hard to beat for a DD and you can get the parts from sources other than BMW. For aftermarket, I haven't read any complaints about Stoptech products.

If you're not tracking the car, OEM pads are fine.

That's a fantastic suggestion ..... based on your review I'm considering doing those Z4 rotors too, when mine eventually go.

I've also heard alot of great stuff about the HPS pads and i think thats the pads im going to go with but im still undecided about the rotors... I really want drilled rotors, do they have oem drilled rotors?

Thanks for the heads up, i did a couple of searchs and im going to take their word about the product and stay away!

I needed new brakes recently and replaced my rotors with Zimermann and brake pads with Centric Posi-Quiet Semi-metallic. They provide nearly the same stopping power and much less dust. I highly recommend them for street/DD use.

I used Raybestos professional rotors and Akebono. Slightly less braking power than the OEM pads, but more than sufficient for a DD. As a bonus, the pads don't turn the wheels black within 10 miles of stop & go driving.

If you do not care about brake dust stick with OEM BMW/Textar pads.

Keeping your wheels clean: Go for Akebono euro ceramic pads, same stopping power and just as quiet as OEM.

A close second is the slightly noisier but just as dust free Hawk performance ceramic.

Always replace the brake sensor along with the pads; change your brake fluid while you are at it if you are getting anywhere near the 2yr mark while you have the wheels off. I change brake fluid yearly in the summer when I am switching from my Spring to Summer wheels.

if you want to improve the car's stopping power without breaking then wallet, all you need is:
- Great street pads (Ferrodo, Axxis, Hawk, Akebono, Stoptech)
- Stock rotors
- Stainless steel brake lines.
- Good brake fluid.
Edit:
- last but not least is some sticky tires.

I just replaced brake pads, front and rear with Akebono Euro ceramic. Perfect deal for about $60 a pair, plus sensors for $15 each. I didn't see any reason to change rotors, there is more places I can spend the money on. And what is the best - NO DUST. (Or very little). I have E90 Jet Black and every few days after wash the dust was just destroing the look of the car. So far very happy.
