The GTD would be a let down. I had a stage 2 Malone 2012 Golf TDI that made comparably more power than a GTD, VW Driver springs, 18" goal wheels. It was tasteful and OEM but as close to a US GTD as you can get and it really bummed me out. The car is lighter than our cars, but not that much lighter, and that little 2.0 TDI had such a weak power band. Even at 190ish hp it was slowwwww (6.5-6.7 0-60). Torque was a bit over 300 and even there, by comparison, the 335d is a super car.

Wow, that's a lot of cars! Not including my wife's vehicles, my cars (bought in the same year or the fall of the previous year) were a 1967 Mercury Cougar, 1971 BMW 2002, 1977 Honda Accord, 1986 VW Jetta, and 2011 BMW 335d. So in 3+ years you have greatly exceeded my total of 46 years. That is indeed impressive.

Corvette is fun, but not practical enough for me. In 1965 or 1966, I was driving one of my frat brothers' 1963 convertible in Oklahoma City at around 2am. I was heading back to the OU campus going about 110 mph indicated when blue lights started flashing and I pulled over. He smelled my breath and asked me if I had been drinking; I said no, not since earlier in the evening, and what he was smelling was an oniony breath from a burger I had just had. So he ticketed me for 80 or 85 in a 70 rather than 110. Cost me $20. Doesn't sound like much now, but I didn't have $20, so the girl I was with, who was well-healed, paid the bill. Heck, I had about $10 per month to spend.

Back to topic. I'd like to keep Beam (that's his nickname) for a long time, but we shall see. Former Rotor, I want to come over in the near future to see your cowling mod. That sounds like my next job, and perhaps I would do an M3 strut brace at the same time. The brace is probably not worth the money, but what the heck, you can't take it with you. If the 335d doesn't make it over the next couple of years, I will defer judgement to see what is available at that time.

I'd hate to give it up. Yesterday I was heading south toward Annapolis on MD 2 to join US 50 west. A higher end C-class pulled in line behind me. When we merged onto US 50, he pulled around me on the left and I noticed it was a C63 AMG. I tucked in behind him in the fast lane. Then both of us noticed a county mountie in the right lane so we kept our cool. After the man in blue turned off into Annapolis the C63 nailed it. Such a raucous sound. I had to turn off so I couldn't try to keep up with him. I would have liked to have done a 65 mph roll-on contest to about 100 mph. How do you think Beam would have done?

Sounds like a long time ago, doesn't it. I guess you'd be surprised to transport yourself back in time to those days, and find out they weren't quite like your image of them. Difference was almost zero drugs on campus, but way too much alcohol. Another frat brother with money had a 65 GTO that we motored down I35 with 6 guys in the car at 130 mph indicated. It's a wonder we didn't all die. He has passed on, along with some of the others, but that's life for you.

He would have walked you hard. Those cars a fairly quick stock, with a tune he's about a 120mph car in the 1/4 mile. Stock the cars are 112-115mph. They aren't cheap to modify but if you can buy one new you can pay the price for the mods. The most common mods are Tune, Air Intake, Headers, and exhaust. Do all this and you have an absolute beast with a near 130 trap speed.

Not surprised. Just watching it disappear gave me the sense it would have been no contest. I love that exhaust sound, even better than the Ford V8 that I thought cornered the market on great sounds. I first started to notice that sound with the pace or safety car at the Singapore F1 a few years ago.

Since we are on the topic on AMG; ran a CLA 45 two nights ago. We did several highway pulls.
I only have JBd set at 85%...I was surprised how I walked him Every time on WOT pulls 100mph+. We did several pulls for about 15 miles.

I was so impressed with the 335d, I kissed the steering wheel after, lol. Handling power delivery, brakes were all just right. I really like this car. My MPG read 28.9 after I returned from the 102 mile round trip.

On paper I didn't think I would pull on him like that, but the 335d surprised me.

To stop a stock C63, tune + DPF delete just might be sufficient.

Yea the sound reminds me of a big block MOPAR, something like a cross between a 413/440 and a Hemi. Even on over run and decell, it has the burble like the big MOPARs do.

Did you press hard to the floor, engaging the kickdown switch or not? I have not done anything on the public roads, only at the Summit Point track. My JBD is at 100%. On the best circuit (to me at least), the 22-turn Shenandoah Circuit is great to demonstrate the torque of our cars. Both the Back Straight and the Bridge Straight are such that we can pull away from pretty much all other vehicles because the straights are not long enough for them to wind up and catch us.

I did not use kickdown.
He started the fun and games when he pulled up next to and started downshifting his dual clutch so I can hear his exhaust. It did sound very mean, AMG exhausts are pretty awesome.

During some of the pulls I was ahead and he could not get ahead of me. During the pulls when he was ahead, I'd reel him in after 100.

I was pretty impressed to see a CLA 45, it's the first one I seen on the road.

Kinda reluctant to post the vids, maybe I'll edit it a bit and post some parts.

Well you did just go against a 4-pot.

Plus the MB's 7-speed DCT isn't considered the greatest. I always see reviewers ragging about it.
