thanks alot, Im trying my best to give back to the industry and the community -- while being real about potential situations. having survived this long, id rather be an assest than a burden. but bottom line -- i try to give it straight the first time. if not i lose my crediblity..

but darn it i have been wrong quite a few times -- maybe like 2

j/k

cheers

All very good points gentlemen, and no, I'm not taking this situation for granted. If I had something really major happen such as a turbo failure, then yes, I'd do my best to flash back to stock before taking it in for that.

Listen up well my friends....

Give your SA a perfect survey and he will always look the other way.

This man knows what he is talking about.

I had a GTI back in the day that had a transmission replaced because I was fooling around (I was young and stupid). I gave the SA an envelope with some cash and said "lunch is on me"

Every time after that, anything that needed to be done to the car he would totally help me out with.

AKA "greasing the wheels" and it works almost everywhere not just at your BMW dealership!

as long as your car did not throw any tuning related codes, the flash is not diagnosed and is in theory invisible.. a piggyback tune like JB3 or Proceed are physically wired in your ECU box which obviously is visible.. your case is the same as anyone running Dinan's flash, like me.. no issues with dealer visits, knock on wood..

I would also hope you know that they reflashed your ECU so the GIAC tune will need to be reinstalled now..

So it sounds like you don't have a switcher either and didn't even switch back to stock? Wow, that's ballsy! Of course there's no way a tech could take your car for a spin and not notice it, and I'd think after replacing all that stuff, they'd have taken it for a drive?

Sorry dude but you are talking out your arse on this one.

Even if the GIAC software ends up with the same checksum, the DME contents can be read in around 80 minutes (that is how long my tool takes to read a 335) and then you don't need to dis-assemble anything. Just do a binary file compare against a reference file and in 3 seconds or less you can tell that the file is not stock. Then an automated script can extract certain parameters and tell them what certain variables are set to, such as boost etc. If they want to determine what is going on, it's extremely easy to do. Absoluetly no dis-assembly required.

Actually I just literally got back from my installer with the switcher, so no, I didn't have it at this time so it had the stage 1 flash. And yes, they drove my car about 15 miles and although I agree with you that they could easily feel the extra power, they didn't say a word. All that said, I do have a very good relationship with the dealer and my SA who is always just fantastic with everything I ever need done. I always give top scores in the surveys and I always write in a very positive comment about my SA in addition as I know they take their surveys very seriously and they absolutely read all of them.

wow, I can't imagine how they did not feel the extra power. Like you said, they probably did, but the relationship keeps them from making a stink about it.

like mentioned already, would be willing to bet that if you have turbo issues they may be singing a different tune.

Awesome that you got it fixed though.

I agree - they'd be singing a different tune (pun intended) if I went in with turbo problems and they knew about the tune and quite honestly, how could I blame them. All in all though I agree with everyone here who says the relationship is key and if you've got an SA as good as mine is, establishing and maintaining that good relationship isn't very hard to do.
