Thought on running rear wheels in the front on an e92 coupe?

Was wondering if this is a good idea and if anyone has done this...

But I thought about getting another pair of rear rims and replacing the front ones, on the e92. The wheels in mind are the stock 18x8.5. In other words going to a square setup.

Will the rears fit up front, with the oem sized rear tire?

Whats your exact offset and desired tire size? how low? spring? coils? how much camber? application it used for? theres to many variables that cums into play. i have 235.35 up fronts now.

thanks for the responses. i guess its not so crazy to do it.

im thinking oem rear wheel and tire...so that puts us at 255/35/18 with et of 32?
thinking of putting the h+r sport springs on it as well. not sure about how much camber. looking for something stockish...

this would be for a daily and maybe occasional autox... a very slim maybe

kind of surprised to see some ppl still being able to run spacers up front, with the rear wheel on there.... or would one need this for clearance?

You can get away with a 245 on 8.5 +32 @ stock -.65 camber on springs. A 255 is to much of a risk esp if you "track". If you insist on a square setup of a 245 its less than of a M sport wheel 255 19's oem equipped and it would look horrible with more sunken rear vs front.

Thanks. hmmm... i was going to throw a spacer on the rear, to push the rear tires out some.

whats the risk associated with "tracking"?

i just thought it would be a nice and simple upgrade to throw a set of rears up front... guess not.

Cause every corner of the vehicle would be compressed to its max for a prolonged period. The front fender is plastic on a e92. A 245-255 wound be a square fitting tire on a 8.5 which mean it will stress the fender being theres no stretch angle during collision.

yes! 255 on the streets means danger danger to that fender during a highway bump.

ok ok... what if i run a narrower tire on the 8.5 in the front? i guess one could run 245 all around, but is there a point other than being able to rotate?

you are my hero for thinking about this concept. I've wondered about it. Maybe we're both crazy.

I've thought about it as a simple way to go square. Also, according to Tire Rack, my 225 fronts weigh 3 pounds less than my 255 rears, so I've thought about finding a cheap pair of either 8 or 8.5 wheels, going square, and downsizing tread.

I doubt I'll notice less tread in the back in a daily driver 328i and maybe with a square setup like this I get more neutral steering and some other benefits from less un-sprung weight.

since you want to go wider at 255 up front, why not just TEMPORARILY swap your front wheels with your back and test drive for fitment issues up front? Might feel a little weird but I would think it would put the fitment issue to rest.
