I want to thank you for this DIY as it's helped me tremendously.
It looked as if the guides seated under the valve cover, if they don't I am mistaken lol!! Glad it helped you, everything go good?

I just got a quote from BMW parts for $287+tax for the parts and all the bolts are special order. Does this sound correct. This is what I gave her:
7544369 bolts x 26
11127565286 gasket
11127548063 bolts x 3
11127556977 bolts x 2

Any special tools needed for this job?

I recommend Gasket Remover. Go to your auto parts store and ask for it; In my case the real stuff was in their back room instead of the store shelves. It's great and will be handy in any future DIYs. Just a thought!

Just did mine yesterday - although I paid someone to do it bc I wasn't comfy messing with some of this stuff related to the fuel line. After watching this DIY is VERY useful and detailed - I think I could do it now that I have this guide and watching my buddy work it. We took a different line to get the cover off but this one seems much better as putting the cover back on was a PITA. Good stuff!

Agreed - I would do this myself next time (hopefully not again for a while although I didn't replace my bolts (dont see a need to unless they were damaged) - the only thing that would have really scared me is the fuel like pressure release.

Also DO NOT open your doors when the fuel line is open! it WILL squirt fuel like a sprinkler - found this out the hard way lol

You are probably right. I wonder what the differences are changing this gasket on N52 engines. I will look for DIY on N52 if available.

So I had my valve cover gasket done at a shop and the guy told me after that he did the torque at 10. Is that bad? Should I be worried? I just got it done so can the torque be adjusted back to 7 - 7.5?

so after I replaced my VCG I still got burning oil and took it to bmw for a diagnosis - and they said the valve cover itself is cracked and need to replace it and the crank case ventilation system is suffering because of this - would this cause burning oil? The tech said I need a new valve cover and vent pipe to the cover....I am not sure what this vent pipe is? Anyone?

Vent pipe is the "check valve" and is located on the left side of the cover.

Okay - thanks I will check this

I wonder now after reading other posts if the silicon used to keep the corners of the gasket on is causing the crank case ventilation system from breathing properly? Could that cause oil to burn off somewhere?

Rob - is this the correct vent pipe? Highlighted #3 part of the emission system - it's the only vent pipe I could find in the parts catalog.

Thanks!
