Go for an extended warranty? or no?
Here's my situation
06 BMW 330i. 17K miles on the car Will probably keep it until the 3's are redesigned (2 more years) Should I get an extended warranty? If so, whats a good deal to extend it? Anyone have any specific quotes that theyve gotten from Socal dealers? |

17K for an 06? Did it sit for three years? Wow.
I guess you should go for it since you plan on keeping it for a couple more years and your warranty is going to run out, anyway. Just make sure you start driving it.

Depends on your vehicle history. Mine hasn't had any significant problems. I'm leaning against extending the warranty.

Yea I just hit 50k. This must be a weekend car. Anyway I just got my extended warranty before my original one went out. I think my SA said the price before and after original warranty expiration is a $200 difference. You have plenty of time to get the extended warranty but just wanted to let you know so you could have a couple hundred bucks. As far as price goes...I'm one of spoiled ones. My parents paid for my car and the extended warranty.

On a 330i with that low of kms I probably wouldn't spend the $$ unless you've had some major problems in the past. If you had a 335i then I'd say go for it without a doubt.

Ohh that's right it's a 4 year/50K warranty. So you don't have allot of time to decide. I agree with the post above. If you haven't had too many problems then the warranty might just be a waste.

Well 2 days ago, i got the AC blower replaced (phew, still under warranty). Aside from that, just rear brakes, and maintenance. And they did a software upgrade because SOS failed once. But that's about it. I know in a few thousand miles, I'll need to do the front brakes, and in 9000 miles an oil change.

I'm planning on getting it, have to do so by 45 mos (original owner protection plan). Steep for 7/100 @ $3900 list. Hope to knock it down to 3k?
I only have 17.5, but if I get it, I can drive like there's no tomorrow for not just two, but 3 years without a lot of worry. I don't like spending 3 grand plus on it, but maybe I can make a good stock trade or something and not worry about it. Too much potential for a high $ repair with the 335.... |

I had this same decision last year when I was approaching 50k. I decided against both because the cost was not worth it. My dealer was asking $3,500 for the extended warranty and $2,200 for extended maintenance. That is $5,700 +tax for both. Now you just have to think to yourself are you really going to spend upwards of 6k on your car for 2 years. With 17k on a 06 330 and all you have had is routine maintenance and an AC blower replaced I wouldn't bother with either.

I recently bought extended warranty (dec09 before year end price increase) for my 07 335i for 1800. I am planning to keep the car for 2-3 years so it will be piece of mind and if I sell my car before 5 years I should get prorated money back.
Hope it is worth it. |

I purchased an extended warranty prior to the factory warranty expiring. With only 5,9XX miles I felt it best to be safe than sorry. The Easy Care extended warranty offered through my local BMW Center was $2,200 including state sales tax. The one I selected added an additional 4 years/60,000 miles (actual odometer mileage). BTW, The BMW extended warranty is also a 3rd party warranty.
FYI, my 330 is not my daily driver. Last edited by SCA; 02-15-2010 at 04:33 PM.. |

I used to live right by work. So for 3 years, I walked to work. But now I have a job in which I drive 30 miles a day. Still though, in 2 years, I will still be under 50K miles.

I'm in a similar situation. I have a 2006 330i. I use it as my daily driver, but don't put an excessive amount of mileage on it. (I just crossed over 30,000 miles on it.) My warranty is up at the end of August.
I was talking to my BMW dealer today and he said that for the 6yr/100K it was $2,530 for the gold and $2,800 for the platinum. For 7yr/70K it was $2,630 and $2,910, respectively. This just seems steep for a couple of more years of warranty. I haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood), so I'm leaning towards not doing it. Am I crazy to own a BMW out of warranty? |
