I was talking to my BMW dealer today and he said that for the 6yr/100K it was $2,530 for the gold and $2,800 for the platinum. For 7yr/70K it was $2,630 and $2,910, respectively. This just seems steep for a couple of more years of warranty. I haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood), so I'm leaning towards not doing it. Am I crazy to own a BMW out of warranty?
Whats the difference between gold and platinum

Platinum covers the navigation and audio systems and gold doesn't.

Speak with Global BMW, they are owned by Sonic Automotive and offer the Easy Care Extended warranty (most SE BMW Centers do). It covers far more than the BMW extended warranty and at a better price. You can also select your own terms (yrs/mileage).

I was in the same situation recently. I have a 06 330i with 44K miles (45K is the cut off for getting the extended). I considered selling it recently but couldn't find a good enough deal on a 5 series that was worth eating the trade in costs. I called around and got the same quotes as "bringsmewomen". I ended up going with the 7/70K platinum plan and the salesman sold it to me for the gold price of $2630 ($280 discount). This car has been fantastic and hasn't given me any reason to think it will fail on me. But, I figured since so many people are scared to buy a BMW out of warranty that when I sell this one, the value of the transferrable factory warranty should allow me to recoup alot of the cost. Besides the peace of mind knowing the main parts are covered is worth it to me.

Jules-B,

Go to the following BMWUSA link and click on the downloadable brochure:

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...rotection.aspx

You won't be eligible for the gold or platinum warranties, but it does have a section for vehicles that are no longer under factory warranty and have less than 80K miles, called powertrain plus coverage. You will have to contact a dealer for pricing.
