Winter's coming: Is your engine ticking?

As the temperature drops, pay attention to your engine.
Many of you already know that some of our engines
are not running running at spec.

The problem is discussed at length here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13504
Page 3 of the above thread has a sound clip of the ticking noise.

I was not aware of this problem, and do not currently hear
the ticking, but for many it occurs during colder temps.

This is my first winter with the car, so i'll be listening
closely, and will report back. Perhaps others can do
the same here.

Wow!

I downloaded the clip an man is it ever loud! My car never did that last year, knock on wood.

I am going to bring in the car tomorrow though, when I start the car and put it into gear it stalls out. I taped it doing it and showed it to my SA. He quickly booked me in and hopefully find out the problem.

Opps, sorry for the threadjack....

If you have a ticking problem, it should happen more frequently in the winter, but it should still happen during the summer, just more erratic in terms of frequency. But the best they seem to do even if you bring it in with the ticking problem is give you an oil change or perform the "bleeding" which is the same as you going for a spin on the highway, and then if they are nice, they will submit a PUMA and send you on your merry way.

For the gross-up that we pay for these cars here in Canada, we need a lemon law more stringent then our neighbors south of the border.
