Tracker Options 6 series

I will be getting my new 6 in a few weeks and looking at my insurance premium it is more than doubling.

Can any of you recommend what is the best option to go for?

I'd go for a tracker monitor.

Simple tracker fully approved and by the "main men" with this sort of thing...

Depends what you're after... just reducing or being approved by insurance companies... or actually wanting your car back if it gets stolen.

I've just had a Tracker Retrieve fitted to the Z, as Direct Line insisted on one being fitted. It was the cheapest unit and cheapest subscription... but IF I wanted to get the car back after being stolen, I'd go for a pukka one that you can get live location details on-line at any time.

Do you really want your performance car back after a theft ??? I would go for a Tracker to satisfy the insurance company and spend a bit of a GAP policy therefore a theft of the car wouldn't be so hard to cope with.

I would, because either way you will have to claim and not getting it back will result in a trade price. At least if you get it back you can sell it on.Which would be the first thing I did.

Jon. Have you tried other companies? It was cheaper for me to not have one fitted and pay a bit extra each year, then to have one fitted and the yearly subs

Sell it on after a theft and therefore undoubtably a claim, you won't get it back without some damage. You would be lucky to even get a decent trade price selling a car like that.

Still reckon its best to never see it again.

i think I remember that jon was it on a contract hire / lease deal but I could be wrong. Can I ask a related question if the car is on contract hire do you still need to get a GAP policy?

No. but be aware if it's a total lose, the hire company will still want payment for the full term.

You don't have to declare stolen unless asked and if damage is light it won't show on the various checks.

Cheers for the responses guys. Only looking for a tracker to reduce the premium but will work out if it's beneficial to do this or if it's worth just paying the extra insurance and leave the expense of the tracker etc.

I am going to get a private gap policy. It is on a contract hire and if anything happened I do relieve that the rentals would need paying.

If the car was nicked not bothered about it being retrieved as it is essentially a "hire car" and not my own personal car. Still be annoyed though!!

Only about 4 weeks to go now, going to call the dealer next week to see if there are any updates or if it's coming sooner

335d is back in next week to get the gearbox looked at again!! Glad to see the back of it!

Let me know where you end up getting your GAP from as I will be in the same boat later (unfortunately much later).

Have you asked your insurance company if a tracker will actually reduce your premium? I know its different on a 50-100k car compared to a 12k car, but my insurance said a traker had no reduction on premium, it was the same with my last insurance company as well
