Do you need to install alarm?
After browsing the old archive in this forum...I just knew there's no alarm from factory and just have the plain remote keyless entry.
Just wondering how many of you really put the OEM or aftermarket alarm system in your 3-series? Or just leave it as it is from factory. |

Do you need it? No.
Is it nice to have? Yes. Reassurance given it has tilt sensor and will go off when someone is trying to jack your wheels. Is it worth getting raped by your dealership to have it installed (ie. $600)? No. Buy the parts from the US (around $200) and then DIY install and have Nixon Automotive program your car. |

BMW has always prewired for alarms but never preinstalled them as factory standards. That said, I've had OEM installed prior to delivery on my old BMW and the same is specified on the car I ordered. While the alarm's usefulness is debatable, it just doesn't seem right without it.

i haggled with my car dealership to getting the alarm + activation for $400.
i told them since i declined having the dealer prep my car (which takes about 2hours, they could credit me 2 hour labour fee for the alarm activation (which is about $200). but it's been 3 weeks and i'm still waiting for the software update for the alarm to work. the alarm is in, but inactive for now. |

I came to work today and notice in our office parking...none of the e90/92 and even 5-series as an active flashing red light under their center mirror.
I guess majority of ppl don't bother to install the alarm |

I bought my OEM alarm from EBay and had it activated for $75 here in Edmonton. I like the additional security, visual deterrence, and the beep confirmation when the doors lock/unlock.

i think it's the 08 cars, there's been a software update and they're waiting for the program. it will only take 10 minutes to activate my alarm once they have it.

Something that's been boggling my mind and I can't seem to find an answer or just wrap my head around it...
What If: Your car comes with the Comfort Access option. You want a remote starter/2-way pager alarm on the car. Do the two conflict with each other????? How would you go about achieving this lol. |
