Michelin tires are generally the best, IMHO. I prefer Pilot Alpins, since they are a bit more performance oriented than the X-ice, but either will be just fine for a RWD car. I wouldn't recommend run-flats though (not a fan of the Blizzak run-flats I have).

that is a soft tire, I would not put those on a rear wheels drive performance car. Especially if you are driving a 335 with all that power. You're going to feel like you are riding on marshmellows with that tire.

Go for a performance winter tire

Unhappy :sad0147:

I dont know if any of you would have experianced timmins winters
unfortunately that is where I am headed with my baby
and hence the reason for the x ice inquiry
I would be strictly putting on tires in only the months that get snow
and ive heard it snows a lot up there but the weather is like dry winter unlike TO where we get wet and humid one

so would the x ice be good for that?

Generally speaking studless ice tires are Q rated (160km/H max) and they are very soft, too soft for performance driving. You need something H rated or better.

do you think
Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 would be better compared to x-ice?

You cannot compare the two since the Pilot Alpin PA2 is a peformance oriented winter tire and the X-Ice is a passenger car and mini-van non-performance-oriented studless ice tire. The former gives you better handling on dry road and high speed driving but less snow & ice traction; the latter is the exact opposite, soft as mush but great on ice. You cannot have both, unfortunately. You have to figure out what is more important - performance or traction -and choose accordingly.

I use Dunlop M3 DSST (runflats) on both of my BMWs. Too bad they don't have the 3D in DSST/ROF yet.

I have the Pilot Alpin PA2 on a 525i (it replaced a setup of Pirelli Snowsport), it handles the Toronto winter just fine (had it for one winter so far) and handles much better than the set of Pirelli it replaced (It's also more responsive than the set of MX4 all-seasons that's on the car in the summer).

For in city driving the PA2 should definitely be a better choice the X-Ice (or the Pirelli Winter Carving that the dealership was recommending).
