Try looking into the dealership covering it, not sure about the n54 but with the n51 its covered under an emissions law in california, I think up to 100k miles maybe more, but basically the bmw is resonpisble for replacing my cats if they go bad before then
The warranty can be a loophole
Kinda how I got my oil filter housing, valve cover and oil pan gasket replaced 100% under warranty even tho my car doesn’t have an extended or cpo warranty

yeah us federal emissions warranty is 8yr/80k (but im in California with their 7/70 warranty), although im pretty sure the us fed emission warranty still stands. problem is my p430/p420 error codes could be a result of a lot of things and not 100% that it's my cat converter at fault. sort of working in the dark

I didn’t know the warranty was the low
My car is a 2011 with 79 or 80k at the time I got everything warrantied
But me having the n51 it had an extra (no extra cost) warranty bc its a sulev
Not sure if the n54 has something similar

the 7/70 has nothing to do with the 8/80 for cats.
It could be O2, but if your car failed smog with less than 80K on the dial, take it to the dealer.
I don't like Steven's Creek.
I go to East Bay and I have yet to have an issue with them.
You can experiment with your money all day long.
I would swap out the O2 sensors because they are fairly cheap and are not to bad to replace.

These are the sensors and they are all the same. The difference is that this sensor has long wires. Zip tie them out of the way. They work great. You will need a claw type O@ sensor tool.

If you change the sensors and you still have the same errors, then you need cats.

I'm well versed in auto diagnostics and don't have any issue figuring out what is exactly wrong before I spend money.

If you are at all iffy about diagnostics of emissions related issues, go to the dealer. You will probably save money.
